Hi everyone,

Philosophy is all about trying to understand ourselves, other people, and the world. That's a wide open field, and here at Sedona Philosophy we're always taking on new topics. Over the next couple of weeks we'll be using different lenses to take a look at immigration. We hope you'll join us for a dialogue after Bisbee 17, screening at the Sedona International Film Festival on Thursday, November 1, at 4 p.m. We're also hosting a National Issues Forum deliberation asking, "Who Should We Welcome What Should We Do?" in partnership with the League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley and OLLI on Wednesday, November 7, from 6-7:30 p.m. Express your ideas, and maybe get some new ones! We hope to see you there.

All best wishes,
Andrea

It takes tremendous discipline, takes tremendous courage, to think for yourself...to examine yourself...Courage is the enabling virtue...for any human being, I think, in the end.

Bisbee 17

“Bisbee ‘17” documents locals as they play characters and stage dramatic scenes from the controversial story, culminating in a largescale recreation of the deportation itself on the exact day of its 100th anniversary. These dramatized scenes are based on subjective versions of the story and offer conflicting views of the event, underscoring the difficulty of collective memory, while confronting the current political predicaments of immigration, unionization, environmental damage and corporate corruption with direct, haunting messages about solidarity and struggle." Yep, there will be plenty to talk about after this film.

League of Women Voters Philosophy & Politics Deliberation

At our last meeting, people said they want in a community deliberation where people
  • listen from a place of curiosity.
  • start with personal stories.
  • use their own words (not talking points).
We'll put that into practice at the National Issues Forum on Wednesday, November 7, 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Yavapai College, Sedona Center, Room 34. This event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley and the OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute).
