This Thursday, November 1, there will be a pot-luck of dances presented by Sophie, Marie, Gerry, Hal, and others. I will be gone this week and be back for November 8 dancing.
Annie informed everyone on Thursday about the very popular Surrey Seniors' Holiday Concert and Lunch on Friday, November 23, 2018, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. The tickets sell out quickly. Location: Surrey City Hall, 13450 104 Ave. Register online. Contact: Carissa Bootsma, 604-591-4274. Cost: $5. Featuring musical performances by Topline Vocal Collective, Pat Chessell Band, Susan Skemp and the Langley Ukulele Ensemble. Surrey City website for more info.
Extra events are optional and are listed here for your information. If a couple of hours of dancing once a week on Thursdays is as much as you want or can manage, that is fine!
- Dance demonstration at Kinsmen Place Lodge, 9650 137A Street, Surrey, on Saturday, November 17, 2-3pm. Please arrive at 12:30pm. Let me know if you are available.
- Annual General Meeting, Monday, November 19, 7pm, at Dale's house, 16479 - 92A Ave, Surrey. Bring a snack to share.
- Winter Dance Party on Thursday, December 13, 7-10pm. Last dance session before the winter break. Bring finger-food to share and dress festive or wear an ethnic costume if you like. We dance to a prepared playlist created from your requests!
- LIFDC 20th Anniversary Party on Saturday, December 22, 2018, 2-5pm, Douglas Recreation Centre, 20550 Douglas Crescent, Langley. Surrey Folk Dancers will demonstrate 2 dances, teach 1 dance, and lead all attendees to dance 5 popular SIFD dances. Let me know if you will be attending. Your suggestions welcome for these dance choices!
- New Year's Eve Dance Party at Dale's house, 16479 92A Ave, Surrey, 7pm to midnight, Dec 31. Bring snacks and beverages to share. Request dancing all evening!
- Dancing resumes on January 10, 2019, 7-10pm.
- Pre-festival workshop with Jaap Leegwater, Mea Nordenfelt, and Lee Otterholt, Thursday, May 2, 7-10pm.
- Lyrids Folk Dance Festival, May 3-5, 2019 featuring Jaap Leegwater teaching Bulgarian dances and Lee Otterholt teaching an International selection of dances. Save the date!
