WHAT'S HAPPENING AT EvFREE – OCTOBER 25, 2018

A LETTER FROM OUR PASTORAL STAFF

Hi Church Family,

I leave our high school retreats more in love with God and our students because He is working mightily in our students' lives! This past weekend was our annual Girls Retreat, and it was a tremendous blessing. Our topic was about God’s grace. Six women with ages ranging over seven decades came to invest in our girls during the weekend. They shared bits of their stories, relaying to the students ways they have experienced and continue to experience God’s restorative and saving grace. Our girls were blessed by their investment. It was a beautiful picture of the church’s generations loving and encouraging each other to seek Christ and remember His grace.

This culture is so performance driven, and we easily become performance driven in our relationship with God. I see both in myself and our students a temptation to believe that we must work to keep our salvation. How we must fight against this lie! I think of Paul’s heart for the Galatian church where he repeatedly reminds them that works have no power to save. Faith in the grace of God alone brings salvation. We need His grace every moment, every day.

The incredible reality about God’s grace is it never runs out for those who turn to Him. Today, how do you need to remember God’s grace? Are you stuck in sin? Repent and turn to God’s unending grace which receives you with open arms. Are you feeling like you need to earn God’s favor? Repent of that as well and turn to God’s grace which covers you completely. Are you forgetting God because life is going well? Repent and remember your need for God’s grace in that season, too. May we rest in His unchanging grace, which we ever need and He ever gives.

The Gospel Coalition – Last week The Gospel Coalition (TGC) hosted their first ever West Coast conference on our campus. Over 1,200 pastors and church volunteers came to hear speakers like Ray Ortlund, Jr., Kevin DeYoung, Stephen Um, Bobby Scott, Alistair Begg, and Ligon Duncan teach through 2 Timothy on Enduring Faithfulness.

In addition to a number of exceptional plenary sessions that were held in the Worship Center, the conference held 17 break-out sessions across campus and a book and resource center that filled the entire gym.

The conference was a blessing to all who attended and we heard numerous comments about how fortunate we were to have a campus like this that has space and resources to host a conference of this size. We consider ourselves much more than fortunate. We believe that we have been blessed by God with a resource that provides an incredible ministry opportunity.
Numbers are based on an annual budget of $7 million dollars.
