On Tuesday this week Constable Marty, Reece from Ricoh and Sam who is riding in the Tour of Southland spoke to our student assembly about the importance of bike safety.
It is always good to have outside visitors speak with us and we look forward to cheering Sam along when the Tour of Southland rides past the school at approximately 10.15am on Friday 2 November.
Earlier this week, many of our Kawaka students participated in the first stage of research into a new Learning Support programme called MovingCog. Dr David Moreau was down from Auckland University to carry out the initial testing before Kawaka engages in the Term 4 programme.
The aim of MovingCog is to grow students abilities to be able to focus better and improve their working memory. Students will engage in daily physical exercises coupled with online cognitive activities and will then be retested again at the end of the term. Watch this space.

Free grazing is available for anyone who has a couple of sheep that they would be happy to loan to the school. Our paddock beside the carpark needs 'mowing'. :)
Contact the school office if you are happy to help.
Our yellow school sunhat is required to be worn by students during Term 1 and 4. Students must have a hat to play outside or they will only be able to play under the covered area and sandpit outside Matai.
We encourage parents to apply sunscreen in the morning before school. Remember it takes approximately 30min for the suncream to absorb and work. Classrooms provide suncream for lunchtime/afternoon outside activity.
In line with our SunSmart Policy, we ask parents to help children wear clothing that protects them from the sun e.g. long sleeve tops, especially on days with extended sun exposure.
Reminder: Each Friday for the rest of Term 4, the Friends of School are selling sausages and muffins for lunch.
Order yours Friday morning before school outside the office.
