November's Everyday Eco-Habit: Going Wrap-LESS!
November is here and that means it’s time for Thanksgiving.  It’s truly one of my favorite holidays because it’s all about family - and food:)  The best part?  Leftovers!  Believe it or not, how you store your food, including your sister-in-law’s extra sweet potato casserole and your cousin’s secret gravy, has an impact on the environment - and your health.  That’s why this month our Everyday Eco-Habit is Going Wrap-LESS.  I want to get you into the habit of ditching your plastic wrap, containers, and baggies and storing your leftovers in a more eco-friendly way.

Going Fright-LESS for an Eco-Friendly Halloween
It turns out 40 million kids trick or treating each year ends up being quite an environmental nightmare from all the candy wrapper waste, toxin laden make-up painted on faces, single-use costumes, and single-use decorations.  This Halloween, we went “Fright-LESS” to enjoy Halloween’s treats, while avoiding the dirty tricks Halloween plays on the environment.  There are so many simple actions the everyday person can take to have an eco-friendly, Fright-LESS Halloween, including dressing up as a litter-monster like my son and his friends did here.
Check out how we went Fright-LESS for Halloween!
Recap of October's Everyday Eco-Habit:
Going Emissions-LESS

October 3rd marked California’s first Clean Air Day, as well as National Walk to School Day, which made October an ideal month to recognize the environmental and human need for clean air.  Thank you for doing so by adopting the Everyday Eco-Habit of Going Emissions-LESS and taking the Clean Air Pledge.  Small tweaks to our habits add up to big impacts so I pledged to do as many of my errands as possible locally on bike.  What was your pledge?

Every Drop Counts: Support Measure W

Election Day is upon us and I have a “Once in a Generation” opportunity for all of you Angelenos out there to ensure a lifetime increase of water supply from much safer, cleaner water.  It is called Measure W.  In short, Measure W is a stormwater collection program that targets runoff pollution, the largest source of pollution to our waterways.  It will help capture, clean and REUSE the over 100 billion gallons of wasted stormwater that otherwise hits the pavement, gathers oil and other trash and pollutes our beaches and oceans.  It’s a win-win because it will keep polluted stormwater out of waterways, capture much needed water to supply Southern Californians, and create new parks and other green spaces.

I have been a water quality lawyer for most of my career, and I am fully supporting Measure W.  I hope you, my Everyday Eco-Habit family, will consider doing the same on the November 6th ballot.
