Hello All Fellow Runners and Walkers
Every week the Club posts an event report in the Waimea Weekly local paper. Unfortunately this week there was a mix up with print deadlines due to Labour weekend and it wasn't printed. So we thought we would send it out in an email instead.
OK Corral 20th October - Athletics Nelson event
Up the Brook at the OK Corral, away from the coastal breeze, the temperature soared for runners and walkers as they navigated one of the most challenging courses of the harrier season. Following a figure of eight, athletes made their way up the road to the Tantragee Saddle, down the zig-zag track, up Brook Street, down the river-side pathway, up the zig-zag track back to the Saddle and down the road to the start/finish line. Cliff Bowman recorded the fastest time of the day, 37.01mins, closely contested by Rick Miller just 20 seconds behind him. Colette Read was well ahead of the other women, coming home in 40.36mins. While it was a tough course, a great sense of achievement was felt by the athletes as they crossed the finish line.
In contrast, and indicative of the variety of terrain our runners can experience each week, this Saturday’s Waimea Harrier 10km Road Race at Mapua is a mainly flat course with a section along the scenic coastal cycleway. Details of this course, which is the last event of the 2018 running calendar, can be found on the Waimea Harrier website.
This race will provide Nelson athletes with their last workout before the Nelson Half Marathon and 10km Races on Sunday 4th November.
