The Colts Connection
October 26, 2018
Dear Kennedy Families,

Thank you sincerely to those of you able to attend middle level conferences.  We understand that some of you had to wait longer than you'd like and apologize for any inconvenience.  Because of the number of students each teacher serves daily, we are unable to schedule conferences in the same way elementary classrooms can.  We greatly appreciate your partnership in your child's education!

Elementary conferences take place on November 15 and 19 from 2:45-7:45.  You are now able to sign up for a conference time through Skyward.  Please contact our main office if you need any assistance.  We look forward to seeing you then.

Sincerely,

Laurie Putnam

Announcements
Congratulations, Leaders in Educational Excellence Award Winners!

Please join me in congratulating Ms. Sowada and Ms. O'Hare for being recognized as this year's LEEA recipients.  The LEEA award goes to staff who demonstrate exceptional professionalism and dedication to educating all students.  They prioritize students' and families' needs and ensure every decision made upholds our district's mission.  Congratulations to you both!

WE Scare Hunger

6th, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to participate in WE Scare Hunger!

WE Scare Hunger is a WE ACT program that collects non perishable food items for our local food shelf.  Students participate in this by trick or treating on Halloween for non perishable items instead of candy.  Students must bring their donations to Mr. Stuber between 6:00 and 7:00 PM in the parking lot across from Bello Cucina.  Students are encouraged to do this with friends.  This has been a great drive in previous years.  Last year we collected over 600 pounds of food!  If you can't drop off the food that evening, please bring it to school the next day and deliver it to Mr. Stuber.

We hope to see you out there!

Yearbooks On Sale Now

If you wish to purchase a yearbook, please click HERE for information on how to do so.  Sales are online this year.  The cost of a yearbook is $16.00.  If you need assistance with ordering, please call our main office.

Please note that if you did not consent to our photo release policy, your child's photo will NOT appear in the school yearbook.

Communication

We make every effort to provide families with as many types of communication as possible.  We update our website frequently and maintain a closed Kennedy Community School Facebook page.  Our teachers also use Schoology, Skyward, and SeeSaw to share classroom events and activities.  Updates are also shared through AD Schaefer's Remind text service and my Twitter, @LauriePutnam3.  If you have additional ideas about how we can better meet your needs, please contact me.  Your feedback is always welcomed at Kennedy Community School.

Fall Picture Retake Day

Please note that fall picture retakes are on Monday, October 29.
Veterans' Day Assembly

Our Veterans' Day Assembly is November 12 at 8:30 am.  We welcome veterans and active military personnel and their families to attend.  A light breakfast will be served to veterans and military personnel following in our cafeteria.
Volunteer Needed

A few of our primary grade teachers are asking for help with guided math stations from 8:00-9:00 am or 10:10-11:00 am.  We would love support each day but understand if you can only volunteer some of the time.  Please let me know if you are interested, and I'll share details.
Teacher Talks

We recently completed Teacher Talks, a way to provide increased supports for staff and students.  Teacher Talks are a time when every elementary teacher and middle level content teacher meet with me, Ms. Willhite, and Ms. Huebsch, our Academic Coach, for an hour.  During this time, we discuss teacher's instructional and classroom management strengths and challenges and review students' academic and behavior needs.  We then create intervention plans for students and identify school-wide professional development needs.  If your child was discussed at Teacher Talks, you will be notified at conferences or through our Student Support Team.  We believe in partnering with one another and families to increase the success of our students.

Our Classrooms

Middle Level iPAD Expectations

We diligently teach our students how to use their iPADS responsibly.  Our media specialist, Ms. Nelson, and our middle level advisors teach digital citizenship lessons frequently and reteach expectations as often as necessary.  Please click HERE to view our expectations and reinforce these at home.  We appreciate your partnership.

Thank you to our amazing MathCorps tutors, Theo, Cindy, and Pat.  These volunteers teach and reinforce vital math concepts to our students in grades 4-8.  Students ask if they can attend every day because they love feeling successful!
