Cedar Rapids Area Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition
These quarterly meetings provide education on a topic on Human Trafficking, intentional networking, updates on local, state and national happenings, and calls to action members can do to truly make a difference. With summer being busy for all, we are not having a Coalition Meeting this summer. The date for our next Coalition Meeting is Tuesday, October 23rd, from 11:30 to 1:00 PM in Beems Auditorium at the downtown Public Library. Gretchen Brown-Waech (the new HT Coordinator with the Iowa Attorney General’s Office) will be our speaker.
School Project:
Chains Interrupted will be meeting with the District Superintendents with the Grant Wood AEA in September, offering trainings for school staff, students and parents. We are looking for volunteers to present these trainings! Training for these presentations will be on Monday, Sept. 10th at Mercy Med Center, Hall-Perrine Cancer Center from 6:30-8:00PM.
Email Linda at EmpowerTheStudents@gmail.com if you are interested in presenting in schools (please note, this requires availability in day hours).
Hotel/Motel Project:
It is safe to say that more than 70% of sex trafficking occurs in hotels and motels. We have specially trained volunteers who are making their way through the corridor in an effort to train every hotel or motel. We have translators available for a fee. Kristina Glackin has assumed the Hotel/Motel Coordinator position.
International Work:
Chains Interrupted is continuing to partner in Guatemala through education and work toward building a safe house in a rural area around Lake Atitlan. We are doing this through IMPACTO Ministries (www.ImpactoMinistry.com), and the Protect Me Project (www.ProtectMeProject.org). Teresa will return in October to speak at the Pastor’s Congress about Anti-Human Trafficking work through the church there.
