CLIMATE CROWD NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 2018

Climate Crowd is a crowdsourcing initiative that convenes and supports a network of partners to gather data on how climate change is impacting people and nature, and supports on-the-ground projects that help rural communities adapt while reducing pressure on biodiversity.

In the news..

As severe drought continues to plague much of Guatemala causing widespread malnutrition, farmers are left with few options. More and more are leaving the country as a last resort. Click here to read the full article by National Geographic.

Interviews in Guatemala

Climate Crowd interviews conducted by WWF staff and Peace Corps volunteers in Guatemala highlight the growing impact of changing rainfall patterns on food and water security. People are traveling farther to collect water and other resources, including into protected areas. Others are changing their crop practices or moving elsewhere to find work. See all reports from Guatemala, or select your country of interest under "Browse reports by" on the Climate Crowd homepage.

Namibia Summary Report

As water holes and vegetation vanish due to drought and increased pressure by people and livestock, more elephants are entering human settlements to find food and access water from boreholes. Conflicts between humans and elephants were reported in 18% of Climate Crowd interviews and have led to lost income and property damage. The government and local conservancies are working to address this by creating watering points for elephants.
