There are a lot of shiny objects out there that pull us off task. Shiny objects affect all leaders to some degree, even the most disciplined ones. Aside from the not-so-polite strategy of avoiding eye contact in the hallways, resist agreeing to meetings unless your specific expertise is warranted. And, as for one of the biggest distractions of all, experiment with batching and responding to email two to three times a day, unless an absolute “A” priority.
