Expert on swans

Animal behaviour expert, Dr Alison Campbell knows a lot about swans. They are not only her favourite water fowl but she also used to raise them.
Swans have been around for over 5 million years and we have about 50,000 living in the wild here.
Alison is a senior lecturer in biological sciences at Waikato University and joins us from our Hamilton studio to talk about swans.

Compassionate conservation

We spend millions controlling the pests that prey on our native birds. In Australia they kill feral donkeys which are blamed for destroying ecosystems. Dr Arian Wallach from the University of Technology Sydney is part of a growing chorus calling for "compassionate conservation."  She shares her research into alternatives to save native species without killing another.
