Making a System: Intro

Next week we'll be talking about a several productivity and organization systems, including:
  • Kanban
  • Getting Things Done (GTD)
  • Zen to Done (ZTD)
  • Bullet Journaling (BuJo)
  • Don't Break the Chain

Some other planner systems that might appeal to you are the Passion Planner and Planner Pads. We won't be talking about them specifically but you can click through to the links to learn more.

Having a system to keep track of your in-progress projects and to prioiritize the most important items is something many of us try to do.

Whether you have a system that has worked for years, or if you're constantly trying something new, hopefully next week you'll learn a few things.

Some basic system ideas include using a white-board, bulletin board, or sticky notes to keep track of what projects are at the proposal, the analysis, the drafting, or the co-author review stage. You could also use a spreadsheet (or just a list), or a project management tool like Trello.

Having a plan imparts purpose to your writing. You can focus on what's at hand instead of worrying if you should be working on something more important.

“Any system is a straightjacket if you insist on adhering to it so totally and humorlessly." - Erica Jong
