Trustees’ Week: 12 - 16 November 2018

Trustees’ Week 2018 takes place during 12-16 November to celebrate the great work that trustees contribute to charities.  It is also an opportunity for charities to think about how they could attract new people onto their Boards. 

Trustees Week can often prompt trustees to think about what it means to be a trustee including what their roles and responsibilities are, how effective they are on their boards and how effective their board is.  Trustees could use this week as a starting point to introduce the question at the next meeting - How good is our governance?

NICVA response to Charity Commission's strategic plan


The Commission is developing a new strategic plan to guide its work from 2019-2022.  It's consultation is open until 5pm on Monday 12 November 2018.  

The Commission has outlined the potential advantages and disadvantages of its six key goals in its consultation document.

Just 8 Days Left to Vote – Aviva Community Fund


Whether you have submitted a project yourself or want to help community projects receive funding, now is your chance to make a difference to a cause you care about. There are 1000’s of projects that have entered the Aviva Community Fund and they need as many votes as possible to get through to become one of our finalists.

Register at aviva.co.uk/community-fund to get 10 votes which you can use at any time up until midday on 20 November. You can support as many projects as you like with your votes. Spread them around or use them all to support one project – it’s your choice. https://at.aviva.uk/NICVAvote

Aviva will fund the top-voted entries asking for up to £1,000. The top-voted entries in the £5,000, £10,000 and £25,000 funding levels will go through to judging.

So, what are you waiting for, get voting today…. and don’t forgot to tell your friends and family to get involved too!   

NI Human Rights Commission wants to hear what you think


We want to know what you think our key priorities should be for our strategic plan for 2019-2022. Email your thoughts to: publicconsultations@nihrc.org. Initial deadline is 5pm on 30 November 2018.

What could your organisation do with up to £25,000 support?

The Techies in Residence programme, brings together the respective expertise of digital technology experts and the VCSE sector to create, develop and implement new digital social innovations in Northern Ireland. They are hosting a number of workshops aimed at the VCSE community to give people a little insight into the programme, what are the steps and what type of project would suit the programme.

***First stage applications close on 5pm Friday 7th December.***

LGNI 'Singing Generations' Christmas Competition


Linking Generations NI invites you to take part in a Christmas Carol Competition. We want younger and older people to come together and sing a song. All you have to do is link up, sing and upload a video to our Facebook page. Top prize - £150 towards a party for the winners!

Universal Credit Roundtable Discussion: Current issues and future challenges

Training

ILM Level 5 certificate in coaching and mentoring

Dates: 19 November 2018 - 18 January 2019

Venue: Online training


This very popular coaching and mentoring qualification will give you the skills and knowledge to plan the development of your people, and to begin a process of coaching and mentoring high potential and key staff. Working in partnership with Global Management Academy, you will have two months access to online materials to work towards achieving your certificate.

Gain an ILM qualification in Leadership and Management

NICVA are offering both an ILM Level 3 Award qualification and an ILM Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management. The courses will be run online and delivered by Global Management Academy.

ILM level 3 Award in Management of Volunteers

This course is for all those who supervise and support volunteers who would like to increase their skills and knowledge, as well as gain a qualification. It has been been developed and is delivered in partnership by NICVA and Volunteer Now.

Covers the Think Family strategy & Dr Arian Falkov’s ‘The Family Model’. Improves outcomes through family focused practice where a parent has mental illness and/or substance use problems.

Start Your Journey as a Qualified Coach

Stellar Leadership will provide you with free training to gain an accredited ILM Level 3 Award in Coaching. All you have to do in return is agree to coach or mentor the next intake on their Involving People programme.

New or Updated Funding Initiatives

 

Nesta: Future Ready Fund

A £250,000 fund to support high-potential, early-stage interventions to test and further develop interventions that promote wider skills in 11-18 year olds, focusing on social and emotional skills and resilience. £35,000-£50,000 is available for between 5 and 7 grantees alongside non-financial support focusing on evaluation.

The Discovery Foundation: Discovery Grants

In 2016, The Santander Foundation became The Discovery Foundation which aims to help people have the confidence to make the most of their future.   Discovery Grants from roughly £200 up to £5,000 are available to support projects that improve people’s knowledge, skills or which provide innovative solutions to overcome social challenges.

Grow Wild: Community Project Funding

Grow Wild is awarding funding of £2,000 or £4,000 to 50 community groups across the UK that want to bring people together through activities that connect their community and celebrate UK native wild flowers,

Comic Relief: Power Up - resourcing women's and girls' movements for change

Aims to support a diverse range of women’s rights organisations to fight against systems which perpetuate the injustices they encounter in their daily lives.  Funding is available for 3 – 5 years  and can be used to cover the core costs / overheads of an organisation / partnerships, or specific projects and activities or a mixture of the two.  They also welcome applications using digital or Sport for Change approaches.

Big Lottery Fund: Digital Fund

The Digital Fund is a new UK wide £15 million funding programme to support charities and community organisations. It is about helping the charity and voluntary sector to use digital tools and approaches to support people and communities to thrive.

Techies in Residence

The Techies in Residence Programme brings together social challenges from charities and social enterprises with digital technology professionals to produce innovative digital products and services that have potential for deep social impact. Funded by Comic Relief, the scheme is administered by Community Foundation for NI.
