This Sunday's Scriptures
Daniel 12:1-13 | Psalm 16 | Hebrews 10:11-25| Mark 13:1-8
November begins with All Saints Day and ends in or near Advent, when we anticipate Christ’s coming again. So the readings today tell of the final resurrection and the end time. In the turmoil of hope, fear, and disbelief that these predictions provoke in us, Hebrews sounds a note of confident trust. Christ makes a way for us where there is no way, and we walk it confidently, our hearts and bodies washed in baptismal water, trusting the one who has promised. The more we see the last day approaching, the more important it is to meet together to provoke one another to love.

UniLu welcomes Pastor Jim Goodyear to our parish this Sunday while
Pastor Fritz is away traveling and celebrating his Grandfather's retirement from 35 years of serving in ordained ministry.
A Note From Pastor Jim:
I am honored to be the Worship Leader & Preacher for UniLu this morning. I attended Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, graduating in 2010 with a Masters of Divinity. I was ordained at Gloria Dei Church in Huntingdon Valley, PA after receiving a call to serve Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Washington on a part-time basis. In April 2014, I was called to Gloria Dei as an Associate Pastor for Youth and Family Ministries. Currently, I am on leave from call while discerning my future in God's Church. My ministry focuses on hospitality, teaching, and creating safe spaces for faith community builders energized by God's amazing love, grace and mercy for ALL people. I am a father of two adult sons, and grandfather of Charlotte and Cheyenne. Prior to my seminary work I worked thirteen years as General Manager for Altland House Catering, a multi-million dollar special event caterer, in South Central Pennsylvania. Pastor Jim Goodyear

UniLu is collecting canned goods on behalf of the Grace Lutheran Food Pantry throughout the month of November.
Donations can be dropped off at the church during office hours (M-F 8:30-11:30AM) or following Sunday worship. We have collected more than 30 items so far and look forward to our growing collection. Thank you for your contributions!

BLANKET DRIVE!
UniLu will be collecting blankets for donation as the cold months approach. To contribute a blanket, drop-off during office hours (M-F 8:30-11:30 AM) or bring one to worship next Sunday.
We have collected a total of three blankets so far!
May those who receive these blankets be wrapped in the warmth of God’s embrace!

Join us every Wednesday at 6:00 PM for a FREE dinner and discussion at 6:00 PM. This is a time for students and young adults to come together and relax with others who share our faith. Anyone is welcome to come out and join us Wednesday evenings for a few minutes or the whole time, whatever your schedule allows.

Thursday Bible Study!
Join us every Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM for dinner and Bible, led by UniLu members Ray and Carl. Each week we focus on the texts to be read during worship the following Sunday. This is a great way to explore the Bible with friends!

Details:
• The service is based on the traditional “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” made famous by “Carols from Kings, Cambridge, England”
• Start time: 5.30pm
• The service is a series of Bible readings interspersed with carols, hymns and congregational singing. It will last approximately 1 hour.
• Location: Saint Agatha Saint James, 38th & Chestnut.
• Light reception & fellowship afterwards

Dear friends,
As I write you this, several wildfires are raging across California. Already more than 30 people have died and more than 200 are missing, while hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes under evacuation orders.
I’m writing to ask you to give today to help people whose lives have been impacted by the wildfires in California. The road to recovery will be long, but we have an opportunity to accompany survivors and let them know they are not alone.
Through our partners in California, Lutheran Disaster Response has already begun addressing immediate needs, including providing food and other necessities to survivors. We are also preparing to address long-term needs which might include rebuilding of structures and emotional and spiritual care. The need will be great.

Feast Incarnate is a weekly hospitality ministry of University Lutheran Church for those affected by HIV/AIDS. Each week a hot meal is prepared and served by a local congregation or community service organization.
We served 92 meals last week. Since the beginning of 2018, over 3200 meals have been served.
