Onthe 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, one of the deadliest armed conflicts in human history came to an end. What began as Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I and the hope for lasting world peace, officially became Veterans Day in 1954. A century after H.G. Wells' iconic description, "the war to end all war," the country honors all veterans of the US Armed Forces, past and present, who served and who now serve to protect our freedom.
