Sunday 11th November @10am

Thank you to those who have shared their photographs and stories of family members who served in the FWW. Our Sunday Eucharist invites everyone to our Act of Remembrance. Our children will present their "Wall of Peace", and we have some special items to be included in the liturgy including a hymn created from a poem written by Kirsty Buchan's and Heather Plummer's great grandfather on 12th Nov 1918.  Douglas Goodson has written a short anthem for the choir "Lament for the Lads". Margaret Mowat has created a display about the special contribution of women in the FWW. We will especially remember those young men from St. Mary's Roll of Honour who offered their lives for our peace.

Annual Frederick Pugh Memorial Concert

On Saturday Nov 24th, at 7.30 pm David Hamilton presents the annual concert celebrating the contribution of the Pugh family to St. Mary's musical life. This year the concert features music from Britain and Germany in the FWW.  Frederick Pugh was the organist and choir master at St. Mary's for 40 years. Sadly his son Frederick was killed in the FWW. Frederick's sister, Stara, generously endowed the church in their memory to support our music. Our concert series encourages young musicians through the year, as well as featuring our choirs and the fully restored Foster & Andrew's Organ.

Alzheimer Friendly Church

We want people to live well with dementia and for that to happen we need to understand and to support those living with the condition. This can only be achieved if we become more aware of dementia and often making simple adjustments can enable people with dementia to remain active citizens.
Anna, from Alzheimer Scotland, has offered to deliver two Dementia-friends awareness sessions. These will be just an hour and will be held in the Gathering Space. This will hopefully help make St. Mary's and our partner charity St. Mary's For All a Dementia Friendly place.
The two dates are:
Thursday 22nd Nov from 11-12 and
Tuesday 4th Dec from 11-12.
Anyone who is interested can come along to either of these sessions. It would be useful if they could let Alison Plummer (07889 013820) know if they are planning to come along, so she can let Anna know how many to expect.

Alison is hoping that St Mary's For All can be part of their Dementia Cafes & Drop Ins programme and can be tied to the Drop In for Playlist.

Christmas Fayre, Saturday 1st December

This year's Christmas Fayre will be held on Saturday, 1st December, from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, and tickets, priced at £3, will be available this Sunday. Please put this date in your diary and help support this event by selling tickets to family and friends. This year promises to be bigger and better than previous years with over 20 stalls offering a wide variety of wonderful crafts. If you are able to help by providing any of the following it would be very much appreciated: • crafts of any kind to sell on our Craft Stall • donations and unwanted gifts to sell on our Gifts Stall • we are especially in need of bottles of any shape, size or type for the Bottle Stall. eg. Sauces, juice, perfume, nail polish, wine, spirits, water, etc. • raffle prizes • baskets and food items for hampers • home-baking, jams, etc. We would ask that the baskets, food items and bottles be handed in by 18th November in order to give us time to sort things out and make up the hampers. Please pay attention to 'sell by' dates on food items. Help will be required on the day so please speak to June Fearns, Nancy Carson, Chris Cornfoot or Barbara Stobie if you are available. All monies raised on the day will go towards church funds.

Jonathan's Vestry Hour

Our curate, Jonathan Livingstone is developing his ministry at St Mary's and St. Andrew's, Uddingston. Whilst he is with us, until September 2020, he is becoming increasingly busy with a whole list of activities including a community outreach project, the Cinnamon Network in Uddingston, and school chaplaincy at Hamilton and Uddingston Grammar Schools; as well as many other aspects necessary for his training and development.
In order that he can consult as many of you as possible, and get to know you better as well as helping his own and our church's mission and ministry, Jonathan is to offer a weekly Vestry Hour, beginning on Friday 16th November 3pm - 4pm in the Gathering Space. It will be a time to meet informally, and to reflect on things you consider important for your private reflection, the church and wider community.

From our Interim Diocesan Bishop,
+Mark our Primus

.Following the meeting of the Electoral Synod at Holy Trinity and St Barnabas, Paisley, the Preparatory Committee met and finalised the dates for the work they are undertaking.
The process of electing a new Diocesan Bishop for the Diocese of Glasgow & Galloway will move forward with an Advert asking for nominations to be sent to the Primus by 26th November. This advert will appear on the Diocesan Website, The Provincial Website, and the website and paper copy of the Church Times. The preparatory committee will then meet in Glasgow on the 1st of December to review the applications received, and then move to the next stage of the process.
I would like to remind everyone in the Diocese that you are all permitted to nominate someone, the nomination requires to be signed by the person nominating as well as by the person nominated. Please note that nomination does not mean the person will be called to interview, so please keep the nomination confidential so that the person you may consider to be a possible Bishop is protected, at this stage, from the gaze of the wider church.
Please continue to pray for the Preparatory committee as it undertakes its work.
Blessings, +Mark.
