DEAR McCALL FAMILY,
This is going to be a long update, but for good reasons! We promise!
We wanted to send a friendly reminder that school is closed tomorrow, November 6 Election Day. Polls open at 7 AM and close at 8 PM. Once again, our phenomenal Election Day Bake Sale co-chairs Jessica Mosur Joseph and Priscilla Lo, and awesome team of volunteers have special treats in store for our community at two locations:

7 AM - 5:30 PM
This year, McCall families have stepped up with a variety of baked and no-bake treats to help raise funds for our school. Check out Friends of McCall for photos of confections created by Desmond and Dexter Lee, Lexi Akula, Neha Ghaisis, Mizuki Harris, Marsha Nishi Mullan, and other families. Have a store-bought or home-made treat to donate? Stop by our tables tomorrow! We'll be posting photos from the Bake Sale throughout the day. We also want to recognize the local businesses that have also stepped up to support our school: When Beiler's Doughnuts heard about McCall's annual Election Day Bake sale, they offered to donate FOUR DOZEN donuts to help raise money for our school! Flying Monkey Bakery generously double chocolate brownies and double chocolate whoopie pies! South Street Bagels will support our school by donating fresh bagels to our bake sale for those who want something savory for breakfast. Ellen Berkowitz of Pennsylvania General Store has donated delicious chocolate covered pretzels. At Jefferson, we'll offer lunchtime options like spring rolls, sliders, and delicious food donated by Gearo's in Northeast Philadelphia and Bertucci's in Langhorne. There is something for everyone! Best of all, every dollar raised will support our wonderful school.

Over the weekend, McCall Fall Cleanup Chair Jessica Beers organized a successful cleanup of our schoolyard and the block. Volunteers raked leaves and filled five lawn bags full of leaves. Our volunteers collected two trash bags of litter from around the block. We'd like to give a special shoutout to Mr. Henry Battestelli, McCall teacher and parent, for bringing his kids to the cleanup. Thank you to Chinese Christian Church and Center Pastor and founder of Philadelphia Suns Harry Leong for hosting our McCall Meet and Greet with Principal Stephanie McKenna on Saturday, November 3rd. We had an awesome turnout, with 24 parents attending the meeting to discuss how to effectively partner with the school in their children's education. Thank you to Mrs. Tang for providing interpretation to support this wonderful dialogue. English and Mandarin translated minutes from the meeting will be posted to McCallSchool.org website shortly.
Lastly, this morning, our school received a very special visit from Anna Brown, wife of Philadelphia 76ers Coach Brett Brown. When Anna Brown learned that McCall needed kindergarten-level books for 100 Book Challenge, and that a set could cost several thousand dollars, she reached out to Leslie Bulitt of Build On and Principal Mark Pellico of Bala Cynwyd Middle School to ask for book donations. Today, Anna delivered SEVEN boxes of donations! These book donations will allow McCall and McCall HSA to dedicate financial resources to other critical areas of need. The books are in like-new condition and even include popular book series for middle school students. Thank you so much, Ms. Brown, Ms. Bulitt, and Principal Pellico! Our next HSA general membership meeting is at 7 PM on Thursday, November 8 at Starr Garden (600 Lombard Street). All are welcome! Here is a list of our upcoming meeting dates and our contact info. Please reach out and let us know if you have an idea to help our school. Anything is possible when we work together to our school!
Lastly, family-teacher conferences are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. School is dismissed this week at noon on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. All parents and Guardians should have received notices from teachers by now with a date and time to meet. Please make the most of this opportunity to hear your child's teacher's feedback on how your child is progressing, and to ask questions and discuss ideas that may help your child and their classroom.
