Pastor's Note
It's good to be back. I have been back in Goodland for about a week now after my trip to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. All I can say about it all is that it is quite a unique place. The size and number of people is mind boggling.
Many have asked what I found out and how I feel. Here's the short version of what I know from my last day at Mayo. We will have to wait a couple weeks for some of the tests related to infections and fungus. They started a culture to see if I have an active fungal infection still. They confirmed I did indeed has extremely high numbers for histoplasmosis but don’t have evidence yet of whether it’s still active and causing my systems or not.
The CT of my lung showed a growth of the largest module in my right lung from my last scan in May. Which was not expected. After pulmonary and infectious disease consulted together, the only way to truly know what is going on with that nodule is to surgically remove it and study it. That option has been left to me at this point. I opted to recheck the size by CT in 3-6 months and see if it grows again. Then we will re-evaluate he surgery option at that point.
It's hard to believe it is already November, but I guess I lost most of October to my doctor appointments. We have lots going on in our church and community in the coming months, so look for news about these events in our newsletters and online.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Zach

Church Conference set for November 11
Our annual Church Conference will occur on Sunday, November 11th at 6:00pm at GoodlandUMC. Again this year we will be joined in a Network Conference by churches from Kanorado, Sharon Springs, St. Francis, Bird City, Brewster, and Goodland. Due to a unavoidable scheduling conflict, Oakley and Winona will meet at another time with the District Superintendent, but are also members of our network.
We will begin at 6:00pm with worship and then move to our meeting with District Superintendent Don Hasty. Agenda items include approving pastoral compensation, yearly membership reports, and a proposal for a single administrative board for church governance.
We will also have a time of refreshments and fellowship between the churches. |

Announcement from Church Council Re: Thanksgiving Dinner
At the October 18th Church Council Meeting our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner was discussed. After advertising for volunteers to organize and plan the dinner, and even inquiring with potential hired chef options, it was decided that the 2018 Thanksgiving Dinner would need to be cancelled. It was a decision not made easily, but became necessary with the business of schedules by so many and the realization that so many of our usual volunteers would be out of town this year during the dinner. We are hopeful that the dinner will be back for 2019. Any questions can be addressed to Pastor Zach when he returns on October 30th.

Help Decorate for our Advent and Christmas Worship Theme
This year we have a special series planned for Advent and Christmas. Our theme is "Calm and Bright". This year is the 200th anniversary of the debut of "Silent Night, Holy Night." This hymn has become the best-loved worship moment of many Christians–even those who only come to church once a year. Something mystical occurs as we light our candles and sing the hope of "all is calm, all is bright"–peace and light for the world. This worship series will celebrate the carol's message over the entire season of Advent and highlight its call for our lives that can guide us all year long.
To make our church festive with the theme we are looking for items to help make this transformation. The items needed are:
1. White Candles
2. Black Lanterns
3. Soft White Lights
4. Greenery/Wreaths with no decoration

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you to all who volunteered during October to deliver "Meals on Wheels." It wouldn't be possible without everyone pitching in. Also a big "Thanks!" goes out to Jim Wedermyer for coordinating our efforts on this project. We will be up again in April, so look for signups in the spring!
