Message from NRWC President Leonie Noble

Welcome to this November's Newsletter, it is my first as President and I am inviting you to engage, enjoy and input into the NRWC process and programs going forward.

I would like to take the opportunity to humbly thank our outgoing board members, Lisa Shipley, Sarah Parker, Geri Malone, Hannah Wandel and Dr Kim Webber who have all helped shape the NRWC over their time on the board. Of course thank you goes to the amazing inspiring past president Alwyn Friedersdorff, whose energy and wisdom has allowed the NRWC to not only flourish but to fly.

This November sees the Canberra muster happen with inspiring emerging leaders congregating in Canberra for residential leadership learning and a day at Parliament house networking with Australian Government Politicians and policy makers.

We also invite you all to participate in our Twitter chat on the December 3, 8pm, AEDT. speaking about sexual harassment in the workplace with Commissioner Kate Jenkins team. This is your opportunity to be heard on such an important issue facing women in our rural remote and regional areas.

What's Been Happening at NRWC
National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces - Adelaide consultations -

Recently the NRWC Board had a strong presence at the National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in the work place at the Adelaide consultations with Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins.

Women with Disabilities Australia (WWDA) Workshop Sydney

Women with Disabilities Australia (WWDA) invited the National Rural Women’s Coalition to attend an Office for Women funded workshop in October 2018.

This was a facilitated workshop with representatives of the National Women’s Alliances and the four national peak Disabled People’s Organisations.

The purpose of the workshop was to bring together key decision-makers to discuss and plan how our organisations could work together to improve engagement and involvement of women with disability in the work of the NWAs, in addition to strengthening relationships between the women’s and disability sectors.

An output of the workshop will be a brief, high level disability action plan that each alliance can take away and tailor to your organisational priorities and context.
