GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT

November is here which means Christmas is just around the corner. Our fall weather has been welcomed since our early snowfall. Let’s hope that Farmer's Almanac is right, and we have a mild winter – following last years.

Lethbridge and District Music and Speech Arts Festival Society held their Annual General Meeting October 25th at Casa. We welcome Karen Kay who was elected for her first term as well as Barb Hignell and Marty Madge. Elizabeth Nevels, Megan Wittig, Lyndon Hutchinson, Majda Pahulje, Val Lazzaretto, Breeanne Fuller and Sandy Brunelle returned to the Board. Sandy Brunelle was elected President/Chair at the AGM and following the AGM the Board met briefly to elect Breeanne as Vice President/Chair, Val as Secretary, and Majda as Treasurer.

The membership was brought to date on our financial status (can be obtained upon request) and the Board Policies developed to this point. The proposed Bylaws were presented; following questions and discussion the 2016 Bylaws were rescinded, and the proposed 2018 Bylaws were accepted unanimously. They have been sent to Service Alberta, Corporate Registries for government approval.

Our General Manager, Natasha Tompkins, reported on the Provincial Festival Annual General Meeting. Please visit our web site for an important announcement. The 2019 Festival dates have been announced – April 1st-13th.

Kiwanis Club continues to be in the queue for a Casino. We were informed that they would share their portion with our Society with expectation the membership would help working the scheduled times. Their next scheduled time is April – June 2019. Since the meeting we have learned their exact dates which are April 3rd and 4th. As you will notice, this is during the 2019 Festival. We would welcome anyone who would be willing to help – either during the festival or in a session at the casino. You may contact us through our web site or by phoning the Festival office.

Why you joined the board: “The Music and Speech Arts Festival” has always had a special place in my heart. As a participant in various classes as a youth to a supporter attending the classes of my family and friends. The opportunity to contribute to the community by helping to organize and operate the festival is one which I am very excited about.

Favourite part about the Festival: There are many, but if I have to choose one; The moment right before the participant begins their performance... the anticipation, nervousness, & excitement!
