Any spare time I have I try to leave my hectic life behind and head to the mountains. I cherish every minute I get to enjoy the natural light, the trees, the sounds and the smell of fresh mountain air…I can't get enough. I am mesmerized when I catch a glimpse of a moose quietly appearing out of a snowy thicket, a grizzly bear grazing on the side of a mountain or hear the high-pitched calls of coyote pups, and haunting echoes of the loons. I don't need to see the wildlife to know it’s present all around me.
Within this new series of paintings, I am using the landscape to construct an atmosphere that can either be viewed as concealing or revealing the wildlife within. The mountain animals are camouflaged, present, or hidden in their natural environment.
