Over the past few years, Cameron "Cam" Kennedy of The Kennedy Family Band has performed with his family at Hope & A Future's Intergenerational Showcase, as a guest with other musicians at our house concerts, and even hosted a Concert for the International Day of Peace at Hope & A Future. In October, however, his music served a different purpose when he teamed up with Ruthie, Hope & A Future's activity director, to do a songwriting workshop with the residents. The workshop was sweet and silly, starting with Cam sharing an unfinished song he was working on with an intergenerational theme - a song for a father sung from his daughter's perspective. We worked with Cam to complete some of the lyrics and you can watch Cam perform the song by clicking here . After working on the intergenerational song, Cam and Ruthie asked the residents what they'd like to write a song about. Not surprisingly, the residents looked at the dogs resting peacefully in the room and decided quickly that they'd like their song to be about them. Silliness ensued as they worked up lyrics like "Yodelady-bow-bow, woofy-kai-yay. Get along, little doggy. It's a beautiful day." To hear Cam's first attempt at recording the song in its entirety, click here and try not to smile.

Resident Update
Some of our residents stay for the long term and some come for a season. Such is the case with our two new live in staff members, who plan on living at Hope & A Future for the next three months. Read on how they're sweetening the season for the rest of our residents below.

Last month, a mother and son duo moved into the house, where they will be live-in staff members for the next few months. With new people come new gifts, and these two came baring musical gifts - one of our favorite kinds! Sue is a music teacher specializing in piano and voice. She has accompanied choirs, soloists, and countless other musical outfits over the years. She has passed her talent on to her son, who is a percussionist and singer - with a full drum kit set up in his room! Music is wonderful therapy for all ages, and our residents are soaking up Sue's beautiful touch on the piano as much as they can during the short season that they will be staying with us. Stay tuned for our first house concert of 2019, which will feature the many talents of the people who live and work in the house. Their gifts are too wonderful not to share.
