Guide to Services and Activities for Families
We are releasing the 4th edition of the Blue Mountains Guide to Services and Activities for Families. The directory provides information to support families accessing local services, enjoying their community and finding the support they may need during times of transition. It is part of our commitment to support families and our goal to make the Blue Mountains a child, youth and family friendly community. Download the Guide for Families
The Guide sits alongside our other directories Mountains of Help (for young people) and the Community Care Guide (for older people and people with disabilities).
Local taxi drivers new tourism advocates
Local taxi drivers are being trained to be tourism advocates, in an innovative pilot program. Eleven taxi drivers, from Katoomba Taxis, attended Destination Ambassador training last month. It is the first time the program, a Blue Mountains City Council and TAFE NSW initiative, has been offered to the local taxi industry. Mike Hayden, Director of Katoomba Taxis, said drivers were delighted to be involved in Destination Ambassador training. “This initiative has presented Katoomba Taxis with an excellent opportunity for developing collaboration and engagement with the Council, TAFE and other Blue Mountains tourism stakeholders to drive the future of tourism in the area,” Mr Hayden said. Get more information
November is Asbestos Awareness Month
We're making it easier to safely dispose of asbestos to help reduce illegal dumping. NSW Environment Protection Authority commissioned research has revealed the three drivers of illegal asbestos dumping are the cost of disposal, convenience and awareness. We’re addressing these drivers in a number of ways, including reducing the fees for the disposal of asbestos waste at our Blaxland waste facility. Residents can also help by reporting illegal dumping and downloading the Healthy House Checklist.
