We did it!

While we wait for the election results to be certified by the Board of Elections, it appears that we are on track to win the top vote in each Ward 5 precinct and garner more votes overall than my two opponents combined.

If there is anyone out there who doubted that our communities are ready to roll up their sleeves to help improve our community schools, who wondered whether a team of educators and community members can overcome a political establishment, who questioned the power of our democracy, last night was your answer.

We campaigned with a message of us coming together to #InvestIn5, to work together to improve our community schools.

We sought to elevate conversations around education here in the District and in Ward 5, amplifying the need for a more equitable school system and policies impacting our most disadvantaged students, while shining a light on the need for more teacher voice on our DC State Board of Education.

We accomplished all we set out to do and so much more. I am humbled by your support and thankful for each and every person who supported this campaign. Every vote of confidence, volunteer, advocate, and donor made this win possible. Thank you! I also want to thank Mr. Adrian Jordan and Mr. William “Bill” Lewis for a vigorous campaign.

I look forward to continuing the conversations we started during this campaign via a listening tour with Ward 5 students, teachers, parents, and community members. I will share more information in the coming weeks.
