≡ WHAT IS DRIVING THE CONTINUED EXPANSION OF ARTIST PUBLISHING & ART BOOK FAIRS? ≡

While tabling at the recent Detroit Art Book Fair we had a chance to talk to others about the continued expansion of artist publishing and art book fairs. Why do you think so many artists are making publications, starting their own presses, and organizing art book fairs? We have some ideas but would love to hear your feedback. Send us your answers in an email to servers@temporaryservices.org, include a link to your work, and we may share your response in a future newsletter or publication.

We are looking forward to this year's Chicago Art Book Fair. Brett was there last year and thought it was the best fair of 2017. This year both of us will be in attendance.

Opening Reception: Friday 11/16 5pm–9pm

Fair Hours: Saturday 11/17 11am–7pm | Sunday 11/18 12pm–6pm

Focal Point, Sharjah Art Foundation, United Arab Emirates, November 8 – 10

We have sent a stack of publications to be presented in the context of this book fair. It is described by the organizers thusly: The event seeks to present, engage, circulate, sell and distribute varied printed products with our audience in Sharjah, the wider United Arab Emirates and the Middle East. Very few platforms in the Middle East, and especially the UAE, cater to the interdisciplinary nature of publishing and FOCAL POINT seeks to fill that gap.

Art in Chicago: A History From Fire To Now, Edited by Maggie Taft and Robert Cozzolino

448 pages | 160 color plates, 29 halftones | 9 1/4 x 11 | University of Chicago Press 2018

We are excited to be included in this history of Chicago art. We were invited to discuss our publishing work.

Extension: Artists’ Books, Prints, and Zines, Dixon Gallery & Gardens, Memphis Art Museum, Memphis, TN, October 14, 2018 – January 13, 2019

Several publications from Temporary Services, Half Letter Press, Public Collectors, and BKDN BKDN Press are included in this exhibition in Memphis.
Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and for supporting what we do. We hope to see you in Chicago at the art book fair, or at other book fairs around the Midwest, US, and the world.
