Fourth National Climate Assessment Report Released
The latest National Climate Assessment tells us about the Northeast: "Less distinct seasons with milder winter and earlier spring conditions are already altering ecosystems and environments in ways that adversely impact tourism, farming, and forestry." Read the Northeast chapter here.

Towns of Groton and Dryden Earn Clean Energy Community Designations
The Towns of Groton and Dryden are newly designated Clean Energy Communities bringing the total number of designated communities in Tompkins County to 12. These designations have resulted in $725,000 in grant funding for local municipalities to pursue clean energy actions including heat pump installations, LED streetlight conversions, light bulb giveaways and EV charging station installations.

Come hear Tim Winder from NYSEG announce the release of Energy Profiler Online TM (EPO) Essentials. EPO is an online portal that works with your smart meter data to help you better understand your electricity use and identify opportunities for efficiencies. 26th Annual Share the Warmth Campaign
Through December 12
Donations of clean new or gently used winter clothing will be gratefully collected, sorted, and distributed across the area. More than 20 "red box" collection bins are available across the County through December 12. Learn more.

CCE‐Tompkins Annual Meeting & Breakfast Featuring Dr. Natalie Mahowald
Tuesday, December 11, 8‐10am, Clarion Inn, 2310 N. Triphammer Road
This event will feature a presentation by Natalie Mahowald, Professor of Engineering at Cornell and Faculty Director for the Environment at the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future. Dr. Mahowald is the lead author of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) "Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius." She will share her thoughts on the report’s findings and proposed solutions, and the work everyone must do to limit global warming. Learn more.

Youth Climate Challenge Award Recipients to Present
Friday, December 14, 9-11am, Tompkins County Public Library, Borg Warner Conference Room
Tilden and Abigail, who won the first grant award of $990 in the Youth Climate Challenge for the "Keep It Cool: The Future of Refrigeration" proposal they submitted in April, will be giving their presentation to the Tompkins County Climate Protection Initiative on December 14. Learn more.

Save the Date: Organic Farming Conference
January 18-20, 2019, Saratoga Springs
The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York will hold its 37th Annual Organic Farming and Gardening Conference in January. This year’s theme—Climate of Change—recognizes the ever-changing world in which we live. It is not only climate change, but also changing markets, changing policies, and a changing understanding of how we relate to the earth and each other. This theme explores how we can remain resilient as an organic community.
