Student Satisfaction Survey

VCU wants to hear from you! You should have received an email on November 19 with a unique link for the University's Student Satisfaction Survey. VCU’s Student Satisfaction Survey is an important online tool that helps the administration identify students’ priorities, as well as the university’s strengths and challenges. The survey covers a range of topics including instruction, advising, safety, registration, financial aid, campus life, and more. Take the survey to help improve VCU and you'll be entered to win prizes, including an iPad and Starbucks gift cards. Learn more.

Demystifying Disability at VCU

Persons with disabilities will have an open dialogue about their experiences on a college campus. Thursday, November 28 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM in the Rams Lounge, Student Commons. Open to the public. Presented in Partnership with the Transforming Accessibility Initiative.

RamRide Thanksgiving Schedule

RamRide's service schedule will be altered for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday break. The Campus Connector will operate from 7 AM to 7 PM on Nov. 21. From Nov. 22 - Nov. 24, the Connector will not be in service. The Connector will resume normal service schedule on Nov. 25. A Lot, I Lot, M Lot and R Lot routes will not be serviced on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23. Impacted subscribers may park in N Deck and Eighth Street Deck on these days. More information.

The Jewish Deli Revival

The VCU Program in Judaic Studies presents The Jewish Deli Revival: Buying and Selling American Jewish Nostalgia, a talk by Rachel B. Gross of San Francisco State University about delicatessens in the United States and American Jewish nostalgia, on Monday, November 26 at 6:00 PM in the Academic Learning Commons, room 1107. Does Luck Affect the Moral Life?

The Department of Philosophy welcomes Philip Swenson, assistant professor of philosophy at College of William and Mary, speaking on Moral Luck: Does Luck Affect the Moral Life? Dr. Swenson works primarily on questions about moral responsibility, free will, ethics, and philosophy of religion, and has published numerous essays on these topics. Thursday, November 29 at 7:00 PM in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 2104c. Free and open to the public.

VCU at 50: Symposium to Explore University’s History

Higher education leaders, faculty experts and notable VCU alumni will gather Nov. 30 at a symposium marking the 50th anniversary of the merger that created VCU. Commemorating History: Challenges and Opportunities will examine the 1968 merger of the Medical College of Virginia and Richmond Professional Institute. The symposium will explore how VCU has evolved during the past five decades. Learn more.

Demystifying the Muslim Dress Code: Identity Negotiations and Resistance Among Muslim Women featuring presentations by student researchers from RELS 371: Women In Islam, taught by Dr. Samaneh Oladi Ghadikolaei, and a talk by Mona Haydar, Emerging Rapper, Activist and Artist. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 4:00 PM in the Richmond Salons I & II of the Student Commons. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Transgender Vlogs on Thailand

Transgender Vlogs on Thailand: Transnational Imaginaries of Gender Reassignment Surgery, a talk by Aren Aizura, Assistant Professor of Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies at the University of Minnesota. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 4:00 PM in the Multipurpose Room, Second Floor (Room 250) Cabell Library. This event is part of the speaker series “Gender TRANSgressions, Past and Present” that began in fall 2017 and continues through this semester. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Title IX Update

VCU has been following closely the development of the U.S. Department of Education?s new proposed Title IX regulations. The proposed regulations have been submitted to the Office of the Federal Register, and the next step in the federal process is publication in the Federal Register for the public to review and comment upon them. More information is on the Office for Civil Rights website linked here. VCU will continue to monitor developments through the federal process and evaluate any potential impact to the university's Sexual Misconduct/Violence and Sex/Gender Discrimination Policy. Meet VCU's Authors: Brooke Newman

The Humanities Research Center presents Brooke Newman, Associate Professor of History and Associate Director of the Humanities Research Center, who will discuss her new book A Dark Inheritance: Blood, Race and Sex in Colonial Jamaica. Her book provides a major reassessment of the development of race and subjecthood in the British Atlantic. Thursday, December 6 at 4:00 PM in the Cabell Library Multipurpose Room, Second Floor (Room 250). Sponsored by the Humanities Research Center and the VCU Libraries. Student Spotlight:

Chemistry majors Neda Ojaghlou and Mahdi Shafiei were members of “Heads Up,” the team that placed third at VCU’s third annual HealthHacks. HealthHacks is a 24-hour problem-solving marathon sponsored by The College of Engineering in conjunction with the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center. More than 130 students from Virginia Commonwealth University and other universities worked all through the weekend to address medical needs faced by veterans. The Heads Up team designed a preventative anxiety and stress app called “Heads Up” that encouraged personalized rehabilitation and biometrics analyses by implementing cognitive therapeutic virtual reality and machine learning.
