CONGRATULATIONS! We defeated Measure 105!

Alongside the One Oregon coalition, people of faith from across the state came together to stand in solidarity with immigrants, refugees, and people of color who would have been affected by the stripping of our 31-year old sanctuary protections.

YOU have made it clear that Oregon stands on the side of love and justice!

When we began to collect “decline to sign” pledges for IP22 one year ago, we said that Oregon was at a crossroads-- would we choose humanity or fear? Love or hate? With your leadership and by a significant margin, we have chosen our path and will not go back.

We are especially heartened to see that Wasco County (home of NORCOR in The Dalles) voted NO on 105 too! The lawsuit against this county jail with an ICE contract hinged on our sanctuary law, so this victory will help us finally get ICE out of NORCOR!

Thank YOU for canvassing, phone banking, holding house meetings with the “moveable middle,” tabling at your congregation, holding educational forums, collecting pledges, the strong showing of Voter Guide statements from denominations, marching from Sheridan to NORCOR with signs, engaging in civil disobedience and connecting the dots between M105 and ICE’s detention machine in Oregon, placing signs in your yard, sharing on social media, and the list goes on and on…

All along the way, we’ve said that each of the actions to defeat Measure 105 must also build capacity for the long-term ‘beyond the election’ work for immigrant justice. This campaign forced us to play some defense, but we walk away knowing that together we have stitched together a robust statewide movement of faith communities ready to play offense!

The fight against 105 is over, but the hard work to build an inclusive and just world from love continues. We are so grateful to be on the path with you!

In Love and Solidarity,

Ron, Sarah, Jimmy, and Alyssa

For those of you in the greater Portland area, we look forward to joining with you this Tuesday at the IMIrJ monthly gathering from 6:30-8:30pm at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church to celebrate and talk about what’s on the horizon. Our new Executive Director, Alaide Vilchis Ibarra will be visiting and joining us on Tuesday. We hope you’ll come and meet her!

Alaide will be moving here from Washington DC in January and looks forward to connecting with IMIrJ leaders from around the state as soon as she gets here!
