Big Step Forward for the Empire State Trail Project

The Empire State Trail project received a boost in funding thanks to The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation. The organization announced its plan to grant $200 million to parks and trails in Michigan and New York on October 17. This marks the foundation's largest round of grants to date, and Alta is proud to play a key part in this groundbreaking project. The 750-mile Empire State Trail project was announced by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the 2017 State of the State address and is one of the biggest projects in the nation.

19-Mile Trail Coming to Sonoma County

Alta will be leading a major effort for Sonoma County Regional Parks with a large team of experts including W-Trans and Green Valley. The Lower Russian River Trail is a proposed 19-mile-long facility along one of the most scenic and iconic locations in California. The Russian River is famous for its rafting, summer homes, wines (it's home to Korbel), and redwoods. When complete, this project will serve both visitors and residents, and will fit seamlessly into the fragile context of the wooded valley.
Health and Transportation Link Up in New Webinar

Alta Planning + Design Canada has been working with UD4H on the TAC Integrated Health and Transportation project. Last week, we held two interactive webinars to further inform and guide the project, leading more than 50 participants through interactive polling on the recommendations, gaining meaningful input in real time. The project team sought input from Canadians working in health and transportation across diverse agencies, organizations, and levels of government. These efforts helped to inventory, assess, identify gaps, and recommend improvements to strengthen the integration of health in existing Canadian transportation policies, guidelines, and planning tools.

More CITE Complete Streets Workshops Coming in 2019

The Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers (CITE) has been hosting interactive Complete Streets Training workshops led by Alta across Canada this year. Cities are gaining experience in this field and regional, national and international Complete Streets guidance is advancing. There's an opportunity to review existing policies and practices and consider Complete Streets principles within a local context. Workshop topics include strategies for implementing Complete Street principles, working with stakeholders, and exploring the future of Complete Streets through policy and design with the rise of new mobility options, curb access management, and how the use of our streets is changing. The first workshop was held in Surrey in July and the second in Ottawa in October. Interested in bringing the next one to your city in 2019? Visit CITE for more information.
