November 10th

Hello from all of us here at the Irish Family History Centre and welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter!

Tomorrow marks the Armistice Centenary of World War I. In all, about 210,000 Irishmen served in the British forces during The Great War. Since there was no conscription, about 140,000 of these joined during the war as volunteers. Some 35,000 Irish died.

Our Spotlight on Publications has been written with this in mind, and looks at World War I. There is also some information on just a couple of the ways Ireland is commemorating this Centenary.

Read on to learn our Research Tip of the week from Expert Genealogist, Helen Moss, who looks at Coast guard Records. We've also got a link to the Irish Echo's Genealogy Supplement, where our own Maura Flood gives tips on researching Irish Roots in America!

Black Friday is just two weeks away and we're running a BLACK FRIDAY SALE from now with a 20% discount off an Online Consultation or a 1-hour Consultation down in our Centre. Don't miss out!!!

Finally, we've got the latest version of our digital magazine, Irish Lives Remembered, in case you missed it. It's a great read, with lots of brilliant pieces from some of the biggest names in Irish Genealogy.

SPOTLIGHT ON PUBLICATIONS
World War I

On this, the day before Armistice Day, we're highlighting the titles that will bring you closer to World War I. Read the Personal Experiences of the Great War (An Unfinished Manuscript) by Franck M. Laird, Late Royal Dublin Fusiliers, published posthumously in 1925. Free to download is Ireland's Memorial Records WWI. The objective of the 8 volumes was to preserve the names of over 49,000 Irishmen who lost their lives fighting in WWI. World War I Irish Soldiers: Their Final Testament is an index to the last will and testament of 9000 Irishmen who served with the armed forces during WWI. And finally, we have the Sinn Féin Rebellion Handbook as an important source due to the fact that a great number of those who fought both with and against British armed forces are listed.
