Employee Spotlight

Joe

This month we're meeting Joe, our intrepid taproom coordinator! When he's not scheduling bar staff or working with customers, Joe enjoys a bit of homebrewing.

What's unique about working at Due South?
Getting to try all of the new beers and meeting tons of great people. The family vibe among the staff and community feeling of the industry

Besides the brewery taproom, where is your favorite place to enjoy a Due South beer? Any special reason?
Anywhere I can drink a Due South beer is my new favorite place to enjoy one. I love our beer, and love talking about it to people that have never tried it before.

Anything about working at Due South that has surprised you? The look on people's faces when they have never been here before or tried our beer and love all of it. I just assumed everyone was like me, and already having a couple beers here once or twice a week.

What do you like to do when you have time off? On a rare day off, I will try to get a round of golf in, or hang out with friends.

What's your favorite part about working behind the bar and interacting with customers? I love talking to the customers. Whether it's a regular customer that is coming in to say hi and enjoy a beer, or someone that has never been here before and wants to learn more about us. Those interactions with the customers are the best part of the job. People come here to have a good time and enjoy themselves, and being surrounded by tons of happy people is never a bad thing.

We Brewed A Beer
With Brown Distributing
For Veterans

Did you know Due South Brewing Company is veteran owned and operated? Did you know the brewery works with veterans on a daily basis at our local distributor, Brown Distributing?

In October, we worked together with members of our distributor’s team who are veterans to craft an incredible beer that showcases a unique blend of hops that were selected by veterans across the United States!

This beer is a Brut IPA (a dry champagne-like beer style) called Land, Sea, and Air, a nod to the branches of the United States military. It was brewed with late additions of the 2018 Veterans Blend from Yakima Chief Hops.

According to Yakima Chief, this hop blend is “hand-selected by a group of veteran-owned breweries from across the US, representing multiple branches of the US Armed Forces. The blend is comprised of five different Pacific Northwest-grown varieties, providing a beautiful mix of tropical, citrus, and herbal aromas.”

Those five hops are Cashmere, Centennial, Ekuanot (HBC 366), Mosaic (HBC 369), and Simcoe (YCR 14).

In addition to being a great selection of hops, $3 per pound of hops sold will go to the Semper Fi Fund, which is dedicated to providing urgently needed resources and support for post 9/11 combat wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured members of the United States Armed Forces and their families.

“Throughout the year we support our friends that have served in the military but on Veteran's Day we wanted to do something special,” said Mike Halker, owner of Due South Brewing and former US Army EOD technician with the 61st EOD out of Ft. Sill, OK.

“The way things came together, from the Veteran's Blend hops to the Vets from Brown Distributing coming over for the brew to bringing in our friends at Wounded Veterans Relief Fund, has been fantastic. As a Vet myself, these folks will always be paramount when it comes to our support. We greatly appreciate their service.”
