 "Happy for No Reason"
Teens Go on Retreat!

Greetings <<First Name *>>

This week Inner Strength took 42 high school students on a day retreat. Buses picked up the students at school and took them half an hour outside of the city to a beautiful wooded retreat center. Fall was in her finest display, bright sun, crimson and golden leaves, the air was clear and crisp. It was a rare opportunity to be together with their friends, learning outside the school setting (with all the pizza you could eat for lunch too!). Teens meditated and learned to how to identify the experience of joy in themselves. Then, when they have happy times they can appreciate them more. When they have challenging times, they know they have inner resources to weather the challenge.

They laughed a lot, talked a lot, and practiced mindful breathing, mindful walking to the 300 year old beech tree. Some worried about new sneakers in the mud. Others were amazed being in the woods for the very first time. We saw cardinals and squirrels, the morning deer and foxes had retreated for the day. The moments of stillness were very still. The Love & Kindness practice was potent. And positive pride was strong when they each received their certificates of accomplishment, their 20 community service credits, and their commitment to bring one student who couldn't come on retreat to the school's new Mindfulness Room and teach them how to be still and notice that part of us that is happy for no reason.

Enjoy these photos from the beginning of the day, more pics will be posted on Inner Strength's Facebook page soon.

May we all discover that source of joy and share it with others!

Warmly

Amy
