School Finance Elections: A Comprehensive Planning Model for Success
Monday, April 8, 2019
9:15 am - 4 pm
at the MASA Building in St. Paul
Register online

Based on past workshops, registering a district team is highly recommended to ensure a common understanding.

This is a workshop based on the book of the same title co-authored by our presenter, Dr. Don Lifto. The workshop's content represents a marriage of research and successful practice, emphasizing systems and strategies rather than specific campaign tactics, allowing school administrators to elevate their thinking to a more comprehensive and long-range vision of election planning. Don has worked with dozens of school districts running operating, bond, and technology elections throughout the US, and is a well-known and respected presenter and author on the topic of finance elections.

*NEW* BOSA: 2019 Fee Statement
The MN legislature has delegated Board of School Administrators (BOSA) with the responsibility for issuing and re-issuing about 7,000 licenses, reviewing and approving over 1,500 requests for continuing education, reviewing 43 university administrator preparation programs, and evaluating 120 ethical inquiries per year.

Starting in fiscal year 2020, the Board of School Administrators entire appropriation will come out of fees it generates.

What do you get for the $75 that I pay each year?  BOSA is a ten-member board, appointed by the governor, a majority of which must be practicing administrators just like you. Beyond ensuring the quality and integrity of our licensure system,  the primary benefit of having a board, a majority of which consists of practicing administrators, is they debate policies, standards, rules, and ethical conduct through the lens of an actual administrator.

Please see the 2019 BOSA Fee Statement which is due November 30, 2018.

*NEW* Winona State University Now Offers Doctoral Degree in Education
Winona State University, Winona, MN has just received approval from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to offer a doctoral degree in education. The new EdD will be delivered online with a two-week summer residency on the Winona State campus.

The new doctoral program in education is now accepting applications from students wanting to start as early as the summer 2019 term. Applications will be due February  15, 2019, and admissions decisions will be made by April 1, 2019. The program will be organized in a cohort format.

The doctoral degree program emphasizes the application of theoretical knowledge and applied research to advance practice in the field of education for school, college and community college practitioners. The program develops practitioner-scholars in education who can strategically enhance teaching, address the challenges of practice, and apply research-based strategies to improve education outcomes at all levels.
