Awards & Honours


International/National

The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation has named Dr. Aristotle Voineskos one of ten new members to Scientific Council. Members of the Foundation’s voluntary Scientific Council review grant applications and award grants to support scientists conducting innovative, cutting-edge research focused on improving care for those living with mental illness, as well as seeking preventive and diagnostic tools for the future.



Provincial/Local

Dr. Mahavir Agarwal and his team of researchers (Drs. Ariel Graff-Guerrero (co-PI), Margaret Hahn (co-PI), Satya Dash, David Streiner, Aristotle Voineskos, Valerie Taylor, and Fernando Caravaggio)
have received a grant from the PSI Foundation (Mental Health Research Grant 2018). Their research, titled “Neural effects of antipsychotics on central insulin action in relation to brain glutamate level and cognition” will be funded in the amount of $196,000 over two years.

Grant Opportunities


Proposals are now being accepted for the 2018-2019 Department of Psychiatry Excellence Funds. The deadline for submission is December 14, 2018 at 5:00 pm. Please click here to learn more.


Applications for the U of T Faculty of Medicine Education Development Fund (EDF) 2019 are now being accepted. All applications must be submitted for Departmental review by January 9, 2019 at noon. The application deadline is February 8, 2019 at 5:00 pm.  The Centre for Faculty Development will be hosting a workshop on November 13, 2018 from 9:00 am- noon.


The McLaughlin Centre is pleased to announce its ninth research funding competition: Accelerator Grants in Genomic Medicine 2019-Whole Genome Data and Genetic Risk Scores. The competition will be based on invited grant applications passing an initial letter of intent stage. Both steps will go through committee peer-review adjudicated by the Director. Letters of intent are due December 7, 2018


The Weston Brain Institute is pleased to launch its Rapid Response and Transformational Research: Canada 2019 (Alzheimer’s and related diseases) programs. Letter of intent deadline is December 3, 2018. Click here to learn more!


The Journal of Psychiatric Practice is holding a competition for Psychiatric Residents who are the primary authors on research papers, reviews, and case series articles. The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2018.  Click here to learn more.
