The United Church of Christ celebrates two sacraments, rituals of the invisible grace of God made visible: Baptism and Holy Communion. Our church celebrates Holy Communion about once per month, but baptism only once in our lives. So as not to lose touch with those waters of life, we remember baptismal anniversaries here. We also remember the promises we have all made to those who have been baptized in our presence, here or elsewhere. This week’s anniversaries are Brecken Johnson and Ailis ShenkCook. To have yours included, whenever and wherever it was, simply send the date to Pr. Eileen.
Don't forget to Fall Back this Sunday, November 4.
Worship on Sunday, November 4
On Sunday, November 4 we will begin our worship in the Fellowship Hall then process back to the sanctuary. If it is easier for your body, you are welcome to just go to the sanctuary from the start. The rest of the body will join you within ten minutes.
The Ames UCC Chancel Choir takes part every year in the Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance Fall Choral Concert. This year our choir will perform with the First Christian Church choir and in the massed choir during the program. All donations collected during the concert go to fund Good Neighbor programs in Story County.
A Little Bit of Everything – 11/7, 12/5
Did you know that the legal name of our local church is “United Church of Christ – Congregational”? And that our original name was “First Congregational Church”? What do those titles mean? Why have they changed over time? And what makes the United Church of Christ different from the Church of Christ, the Church of God in Christ, the United Methodist Church, and the United Church of God?

This program year, on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (the same time as Youth Group and Chancel Choir), I’m offering a class about the history, practices, and theology (theologies) of the United Church of Christ through video, conversation, and activities. We will open with a prayer practice and close by joining the Chancel Choir and Youth Group for song and prayer.

No homework, no RSVP, just come. Childcare for kids through 5th grade is available. Pr. Eileen
Fire Drill – 11/11
Depending on the weather, the Worship and Music Team is planning to have a Fire Drill after the worship service on November 11.  We would like everyone to participate so we know the church has a safe evacuation plan.  More details will be in the bulletin next week.
Thank You for your Extravagant Welcome
The Worship and Music Team would like to thank the following people for volunteering to help during the month of October while we were worshipping in Fellowship Hall:

Brett Brinkmeyer, Jim Coppoc and family, Kermit Dirks, Trudy Dirks, Barbara Faidley, Will Hannover, Barbara Hauerrberg, Bonnie Hawkins, Gabe Hanson, Annelise Johnson, Brecken Johnson, Stella Klocke, Sue Lamont, Greg Lamont, Karen Lasche, Anna Nadolny, Diane Northington, Julia Shannon, Maya Shannon, Kim Spangler, Annalynn Watts, and Oliver Watts.

We also wish to thank all the people who helped move chairs and couches to the Fellowship Hall so we had enough seats.  A great big thank you to all of our volunteers!

The Worship and Music Team will soon be asking for volunteers for the services in December. Please volunteer your time for this simple job to make everyone feel welcome and help each worship service run smoothly.
