October, I hardly knew ye.

October went out with a bang, literally. Thunder and lightning dominated Halloween night, with strong winds and heavy rain accompanying the storm. I barely gardened in October. First it was the grey, chilly days that kept me indoors. Then a sinus infection sidelined me to the couch to binge romcoms on Netflix. One thing we have been doing is camping and hiking. Two out of the three trips were over glorious October skies--the ones we typically have. The first trip was pretty much how this October passed, wet and dreary. Nonetheless, we've made do with being adventurous and getting some Vitamin Nature into our systems despite a lot of non-gardening.

Part of me is wishing it was February already. I'm itching to revise our flower gardens and can't wait to rip a few things out and get new plants in the ground. Another part of me is ready to give up because of our constant deer problem. I'm looking for natives that the deer won't touch but so far only come back to salvia! I have dreams---we shall see if they can come to fruition in the spring. Until then I'm scouting seeds to purchase and hope to get them bought and into pots or the ground in a few weeks so they can stratify. The rest will have to be filled out by nursery purchases.

The edible garden is in almost as much of a limbo state the flower garden is in. Thankfully I had the foresight to sow some things in September and a lot of that is germinating and growing. Radishes are being harvested and it won't be long until kale and other greens are being turned into salads. My green beans, sown in early August, are trucking along and the cucumber may produce some fall fruit before we get a frost. We shall see!

My apologies for getting this out in November---I almost didn't send this but thought I'd say hello anyway! Hope your autumn is lovely!
