Raisin in the Sun

FINAL PERFORMANCES: THURSDAY-SATURDAY, NOV. 1-3, 8PM. ROBLE STUDIO THEATER. 

Lorraine Hansberry's moving classic kicked off Stanford TAPS's 2018-19 production season last week and the final three performances are Nov. 1-3. Tickets are sold-out but there is still a chance to see the show by joining the wait list. This production, directed by TAPS Professor and Stanford Vice President for the Arts, and Senior Vice Provost for Education Harry Elam Jr., is presented in conjunction with Blackstage and the Stanford Arts Intensive summer program.

Jordi Savall: The Routes of Slavery 

SUNDAY, NOV. 4, 4PM. BING CONCERT HALL.

Catalan composer, viola da gambist, and musical historian Jordi Savall gathers a global array of dancers, singers and musicians to pay homage to the music of Europe, Africa and the Americas in a stunning exploration of humanity, spiritual resistance and community in the face of slavery’s unimaginable cruelty. Sponsored by UNESCO, this massive cross-cultural musical reconciliation features some two dozen instrumentalists and vocalists from Mali, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela.

As part of the Lane Lecture Series, award-winning writer Gish Jen is on campus for a reading. Her most recent book is a work of nonfiction entitled The Girl at the Baggage Claim: Explaining the East-West Culture Gap (2017). She is currently at work on a new novel. Jen will present a colloquium the following day, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m., in the Terrace Room of Margaret Jacks Hall.
