We'll be joined by Roderico Díaz, a Maya Kaqchikel photojournalist, documentary filmmaker, and co-founder of the Guatemalan Independent Media Center (CMI-Guate). Over the past decade, his work has focused on documenting the movement led by indigenous Guatemalans seeking justice for genocide and defending communities against efforts by multinational corporations to extract natural resources from their ancestral lands. His current work focuses on documenting the lives of Central American refugees living in sanctuary in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he now resides. Come hear Rode talk about his work as a committed photographer and the connections between the struggles to defend indigenous communities in Guatemala and refugees seeking sanctuary in the U.S.
