SUTTER CREEK PROVISIONS

Honestly, I don't know what happened. It feels like we were just talking about the July heat, and now here we are at the threshold of the holiday season...crazy, right? This is the time of year when Sutter Creek really shows well. The leaves are changing colors, the temperature is dropping, sunsets are epic, the "Jewel of the Mother Lode" title really makes sense now.

Our live music calendar is solid again this month, with two artists that are new to the Provisions stage- Jesse Daniel 11/11 and Rick Shea 11/30- a couple of regular acts- Highway 49 on the 18th and Slade Rivers on the 25th- and the return of a band that has become part of the Provisions family after multiple visits to Sutter Creek- Bottom Dwellers 11/3.

In the beer department, there's been so much to be excited about the past few weeks. We were fortunate to acquire distribution of Alvarado Street Brewery and Yeast of Eden beers from Monterey and Carmel recently. This addition adds so much to the diversity of our canned & bottled beer selection as well as rounding out our already stellar draught list each week.

We love craft cider too, and we have an exciting event planned for Saturday 11/24. We're going to hollow out a giant pumpkin, caramelize the inside with a torch, and fill it with warm, spiced cider from 2 Towns Ciderhouse in Corvallis, OR.

November 15th- 16th-17th
November 29th- 30th- December 1st

Have you tasted the
Provisions Pantry food yet?

Back in July of 2017, we created a pop-up restaurant here at Provisions...it started with just two days each week...now here we are, a little over a year into it, and the success has convinced us to offer the Pantry THREE days a week!
Beginning about 5pm we serve fresh, delicious food that's prepared in-house by Tim Blankenship. All dishes are dine-in only...Thursday-Friday-Saturday evenings.

~ The format is simple...small plates...often with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients.
~ We try to include something vegetarian or vegan on most of our weekly menus.
~ Each week we offer 3-4 tasty options.
~ Watch Instagram & Facebook for us to publish the menu on Thursday afternoon around 3pm.

BOTTOM DWELLERS
SATURDAY ~ 11/3
5:30 DOOR
$10.00 CASH ONLY

The Bottom Dwellers are a four-piece Americana band from Woodland, California. Formed in 2003, the group has four full-length original albums under their belts; “Twang Americana”, released in 2005, “Think I Need a Drink”, released in 2008, and “Deep on the Line”, released in 2014, and “The Bottom Dwellers”, released July 2018.

For their fourth album, The Bottom Dwellers team up with producer Max Hart (The War On Drugs, Aaron Lee Tasjan, We Are Scientists) to tie together their signature eclectic sound that explores the wide-range of the Americana genre. The result is a patchwork of brooding war ballads, ecological disaster waltzes, and 60s-inspired country rock that is surprisingly cohesive. After 15 years, the Bottom Dwellers have gelled into a fine-tuned, song-focused group that is as comfortable pushing the boundaries of Americana as they are playing traditional honky tonk.

 JESSE DANIEL
SUNDAY ~ 11/11
4:30 DOOR
$10.00 CASH ONLY

Jesse Daniel grew up in the small mountain town of Ben Lomond, CA. Hard times hit and his parents split up, resulting in heavy, ongoing turmoil. Daniel and his brother would help their mother scavenge metal at the local landfill, which she would weld and sell at the flea market, to put food on the table. The winters were long and cold in the converted barn the family called home, making the summer season a respite to look forward to. “I learned at an early age what it meant to work hard, and to endure.” Said the singer of his youth.

His father, a talented musician and songwriter, instilled the importance of music in Daniel from an early age. He began pouring himself into music as a form of refuge, finding just that in the realm of punk rock. “I felt like there was a group of people who understood what I carried around on my shoulders… and they were just as pissed as I was.” A gifted drummer, Daniel played in numerous punk bands. This introduced him to life as a traveling musician as well as steadily increasing his drug and alcohol consumption. The singer dropped out of high school, to play music and work a series of menial jobs. “I was so lost…” he said nostalgically, “I became a garbage can. Any drug I could get, I’d take, until I found heroin. After that it was a wrap, that’s all I wanted to do.” Music quickly took the back burner. “I started getting arrested and missing shows, to the point where I sold my drums just not to get sick. I traded everything for nothing.” The next several years would be a series of stints in rehab, jail and homelessness.

“Some people call me crazy, some people call me stoned, others say I’m strung-out destined just to be alone”

It had taken years of being lost to realize what he was meant to do all along. After getting back on his feet, the singer bought a Fender guitar at a pawnshop for $50 and began writing songs. He assembled a band and began playing bars and clubs, quickly gaining notoriety for his energetic music and rowdy showmanship. “One of the biggest rewards so far has been the opportunity to make new friends and share the stage with other musicians I admire.” Said the singer in reference to playing with heroes of his such as, Wayne “The Train” Hancock, Phil & Dave Alvin, Junior Brown and more. Jesse takes inspiration regarding his musical work ethic from the late Buck Owens,“The harder I work, the luckier I get.”

With the blood, sweat and tears of past and present, Daniel cut and co-produced his debut self-titled album, playing many of the instruments himself, including all drums, percussion and guitar. The record holds true to Daniel’s character, taking you for a ride through the singer’s life, gritty realism and tongue-in-cheek anecdotes. The album is set to release May of 2018, and he and his band will be touring extensively to support it. “To me this album embodies my journey. I’m grateful to be here, and I’m trulyproud of this record. If my story can help anyone going through a struggle of their own, I’ve done my job and paid it forward. Now the real work starts.”

His songs reflect the folk, country, rock and Mexican influences he grew up with. As a songwriter Shea lets the songs find their own settings. “Starting out you might be hearing a song one way and then when its done realize it’s about something else altogether.”  And on his songwriting influences Shea says, “When I was younger Merle Haggard cast a long shadow, but since then Dave Alvin, Jim Ringer and a lot of other music has found its way in.”

Rick’s latest album Sweet Bernardine, his ninth, is a collection of his own stories and stories of California and beyond. From the train journey he took as a brokenhearted young man in “Mexicali Train” to the harrowing tale of his great grandfather’s time in Civil war prisoner camps in “John Shea from Kenmare”, Shea’s songs resonate deeply.

Recently Rick has  toured Texas, New England, Ireland, the U.K. and Hawaii. “Playing live shows is what I've always done, from the bars, honky-tonks and coffeehouses I started in to the shows I do now. It’s a chance for me to meet people and see them connect with the songs, that’s really what it’s all about.”

"If your tastes run toward hard working, literate, back 40 folkies like Tom Russell, Chuck Pyle, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and others like that, Shea is sure to be another that you're going to dig. With a very personal edge to his writing and singing, this is classic folkie/troubadour stuff that cuts right to the chase and delivers moves that others can only turn into clichés. Check it out, it's the real deal." - Chris Spector MIDWEST RECORD
