the 2019 Arrell Global Food Innovation Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2019 Arrell Global Food Innovation Awards. These prizes will be awarded to individuals or groups ensuring future food security for the planet through research and through community organization. Nomination submission closes January 31st, 2019.

About the Awards 

Worth $100,000 each, the awards distinguish scientific excellence and community engagement which contribute to overcoming the challenges our world will face in feeding 9 billion people and beyond. 

The first award recognizes a researcher, or group of researchers, who has advanced understanding of food production, processing, distribution, consumption, safety, or human nutrition, with a significant positive impact on society. 

The second award recognizes an individual, or group of individuals, who has contributed to improved nutritional health or food security, with a focus on strengthening communities. 

Award Adjudicators

The awards are adjudicated by a panel of international experts in food and agriculture science, as well as leaders of global movements. 

  • Sir Charles Godfray: Hope Professor of Zoology at Oxford University, Director of the Oxford Martin Programme on the Future of Food 
  • Sheila Watt-Cloutier: Environmental and Aboriginal rights advocate, formerly Canadian President of the Inuit Circumpolar Council 
  • Pamela Ronald: Distinguished Professor, Department of Plant Pathology and the Genome Center, UC Davis 
  • Christine Daughtery: Vice President Global Sustainable Agriculture & Responsible Sourcing, PepsiCo 

2018 Winners

Dr. Myers has helped to establish planetary health as a new field of study, which considers the human health impacts of human caused disruptions of the planet’s natural systems. 

Solidaridad is a network of regional expertise centres across the globe that aims to make fair trade possible by developing sustainable global supply chains.
