Dear Muddy Brook Families:

It's been a very busy week at Muddy Brook with Halloween falling right in the middle.  I very much enjoyed my first Halloween costume parade.  It was a fun community-builder, and it's always interesting to see the kids' (and the adults') costume choices.

Thursday evening I had the great pleasure of attending the fourth grade's learning celebration concluding their study of Mexico.  I was very impressed with the student work in the form of maps, art and writing, and I was genuinely moved reading the student essays about a family member that had passed on.  That assignment, completed almost entirely at home with family, was chosen to illustrate the meaning of el dia de los muertos or the day of the dead - an important Mexican tradition when families remember and honor those that have passed on.  I want to thank the fourth grade team for their enthusiasm and hard work in creating this engaging and memorable learning experience for our students.  I also want to thank the families of our fourth graders for contributing to the celebration with a delicious variety of Mexican dishes.

A reminder that on Tuesday, November 6, all BHRSD schools will be closed for staff professional development.  Teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators will be attending professional education activities on a wide range of topics.

Have a great weekend.  Please find time to read with your children.
