Designing Your Life book coverHow I redefined success

About a year ago, I decided to get really serious about turning our gap year experiences into a book. It was an obvious goal. I'm a published author. I was a journalist for several decades. And I've been blogging on the topic with my husband for over five years.

But along the way, I got stuck.

For the inside story on what happened and what I'm up to now, I invite you to read the interview I did with Designing Your Life For Women, after attending their workshop in San Diego last spring.

It starts like this:

A Gap Year For Grown-Ups: Debbie Weil's Story

... if the bumper sticker is correct, it’s never too late to have a happy childhood so in 2013, Debbie Weil and Sam Harrington, at age 61, took the gap year they wanted when they were young. Their three children grown, they left their comfortable lives in Washington DC to design an incredible gap year for grown-ups: studying French in Paris, traveling through Africa to volunteer and trek with mountain gorillas, and ultimately deciding to sell their home in DC to live in a remote village on the Maine coast.

photo of DebbieWhile traveling, Debbie bought the hot-off-the-press European edition of Designing Your Life at the airport in Amsterdam and read it all the way home. With their official “gap year” over, Debbie was pondering how to make sense of their new life. What came next? What was their purpose? What did they want to accomplish?

I can't say enough good things about the Designing Your Life for Women workshop I attended. Email me if you want to learn more. There will be more workshops in 2019.
