#10: Former highly-rated recruit & eventual Mississippi State MBB student-athlete Sidney, who contributed for MSU from 2010-2012, says his family received money from the Bulldogs. Sidney: "I was getting money. I don’t know how much. They weren’t giving it to me. They were giving it to my mom. I remember my mom used to come all the way down there (to Mississippi State) probably once a month. I never asked her how much we were getting. I knew we were getting some money. She told me." Sidney's mother denies the claims. (link)
#9: Video lacks context, but here's Evansville AD Spencer telling a UE student & Men's Soccer supporter to "get the hell out," apparently in connection to the Aces matchup with Grand Canyon. (link)
#8: Check out Mississippi State's FB unis for this weekend, honoring WWII hero and MSU alum Montgomery. Sweet location for a photo shoot, too. (link)
#7: Rutgers Senior Assoc. AD for Leadership Development & Strategic Partnerships Navarro reviews her department’s restructure. Scroll down a bit & there's a nifty triangular graphic that illustrates the desired maturation of a student-athlete at RU from a freshman focused on personal enhancement to a sophomore who picks up speed on community engagement & career development with some SAAC sprinkled in, up to a junior with leadership development as a key & finally on to senior status with an eye toward alumni engagement. More. (link)
#6: Looks like a tweet by Washington State FB HC Leach over the summer of a doctored video of former Prez Obama led to a number of university supporters threatening to pull their commitments if WSU didn't respond. One said she would remove a $1M estate proceed earmarked for the institution, another said he'd be taking his $25K to Oregon State. More. (link)
#5: Man, shots fired. SEC Network's Finebaum on UCF's current FB narrative, "The only thing UCF has going for them is a grandstanding athletic director who just can’t keep his mouth shut, but also can’t schedule a decent opponent and (UCF has) a fan base that is delusional." Finebaum anxious to see the initial CFP standings, vouches for Kentucky to be ahead of UCF. I can't wait to see how White plays this one. (link)
#4: A physical altercation between a student-athlete & assistant coach for Iona MBB leads to a top returner for the Gaels dismissed & the coach in the hospital. Outgoing student-athlete Griffin says the dispute was over study hall, "We got in each other’s face. It was really heated. He (AC Johns) eventually grabbed me by the jacket and tried to throw me down on the ground physically. We were against the locker, wrestling against the locker. He was grabbing me and holding me. He tried to wrestle me down, and I ended up on top. I’m not going to let another man physically do that to me. I punched him four or five times, then I stopped." (link)
#3: ECU Acting COO & longtime Pirates leader Workman announces he'll retire at the end of the calendar year. Workman has spent 34 years in Greenville, "It is time for me to turn the page to a new chapter in my professional life and look forward to seeing what doors open in the future. While I am retiring as a staff member, we will always be ECU Pirate fans." (link); With Workman off the list, 247 Sports' Igoe takes a look at who he thinks could be in the mix for the open AD chair at ECU. Igoe goes with Eastern Michigan AD Wetherbee, Charleston Southern AD Barber, UNC Wilmington's Bass, former UW-Milwaukee AD Koonce, UT Chattanooga boss Wharton, Clemson Deputy AD Neff, Appalachian State's Gillin, TCU Deputy AD for Internal Affairs Sinquefield, Georgia Deputy AD Borman, South Carolina Deputy AD Waddell, Miami (FL) Senior Assoc. #2: Wow. The Raiders will play on grass and UNLV will play on turf in the new Las Vegas Stadium. How, you ask? Easy, the grass field slides out of the stadium. Seriously, watch. (link)
#1: Wow, BYU AD Holmoe really went all out for his Halloween costume this year. Impressive. Also included are pictures of his getups for the past several years. (link)
