From the President
Lisa Bradley: president@a2jaycees.org
A year ago, I was reaching the halfway point of my historic two-term Presidency, but I am excited to pass the gavel to the 2019 President-Elect Carena Townsend and the rest of the 2019 Board of Directors!  I plan to fully reflect on our accomplishments of 2018 at our Year Ender event, so I hope you will join us on January 26th.  Even if you didn’t get elected to the Board, there are plenty of ways that you can Take Action right now to Be The Change that you want to see in 2019!  Don’t hesitate to voice your concern/interest to any of the current/future board members, the success of our chapter and our impact lies with you, our members.

Brunch and the Yankee Air Museum
On a wonderful Sunday in October, with a glorious Michigan State loss fresh in our minds, we gathered at Weber’s in Ann Arbor for a delicious Sunday brunch buffet. Every protein seemed to be available, chicken, ham, sausage, beef, but not the elusive bacon. So what do resourceful, hungry Jaycees do? Order a plate of bacon, of course!

We then met up at the Yankee Air Museum, located at Willow Run Airport near Ypsilanti. Once we arrived, a volunteer offered to give us a tour of their indoor facility. His knowledge was vast, and the Jaycees were treated to a verbal history about so many different aspects of the efforts during World War II. What we enjoyed the most about the museum was the all-around history, spanning many decades. We saw an example of a glider plane, pre-World War I, a B-17 and B-25 from World War II, up to the F-4 Phantom from the Vietnam era. A water bomber, helicopter, and a cockpit for a KC-135 rounded out the notable displays.

But it was more than just airplanes. The museum also did a great job to have artifacts relevant to that plane’s era, such as uniforms, photos, and such. The photos really brought the airplanes to life. And a few Jaycees enjoyed a computer simulated airplane ride! This museum and brunch trip was a hit!
