Letter from the President

Dear SDPCA members,

Relaxing with the group at the Palomar Mountain campout, I was struck by the beautiful fall leaves starting to turn. The days are getting shorter, and today we make our clocks “fall back.” This also means that our annual holiday party, our biggest event of the year, is just around the corner. We can’t wait to gather together to celebrate peace and friendship with our members!

We are still accepting internationally-themed donation items for our silent auction.  If you have an item from your country of service or other international travels, please contact Lynne Graham at glynne92024@yahoo.com.  The money raised from the auction will support our organization, including volunteer projects in the field.

Want to save time at the holiday party so you have more time to socialize, bid on silent auction items, and enjoy delicious food?  Renew your membership online before the event! 2019 membership starts on January 1st. We are looking forward to having you as a part of our organization again next year!

Thank you for your ongoing support of the San Diego Peace Corps Association.

In Peace,

Celeste Peacock-Coleman
SDPCA President
Ukraine, 2005-2007

Urge Support for Funding. The National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) sent a letter to the president signed by 109 NPCA affiliate groups, including the SDPCA, which represented more than 50,000 people urging support for strong Peace Corps funding for the fiscal year 2020.

Here is the link to the letter and an electronic action where YOU can write to the White House, urging support for Peace Corps funding in his next budget request to Congress.

President Signs Health & Safety Legislation into Law. On Tuesday, October 9th, the Sam Farr, Nick Castle Peace Corps Reform Act of 2018 (H.R.2259) was signed into law. According to the NPCA, this law will provide a number of improvements to Peace Corps operations, including mandating strengthened criteria in the hiring of overseas medical personnel, re-authorization and new provisions to further address agency actions to support volunteers victimized by sexual assault or other forms of violence. Here is a link for more information.
