Hello,

After about two month on hiatus due to my Africa tour and other projects, the newsletter is back ! No music reviews will be included this time but plenty, in the next one !

Database
As you will see at the bottom of the newsletter, 76 artists, labels and venues have been added to the database that now includes more than 2700 references and and and... I still have a huge amount of artists to add, especially from Iran, China, Indonesia.

New release
C-drík - Traffic jam, new noise track published this month - I often play noise live but rarely record any noise music, so here it is, free download or pay as you wish, available on Bandcamp.. And don't forget our latest compilations Uchronia - 49 artists and bands from 32 Asian countries and the diaspora (3CD and digital) and Pekak! Indonesian Noise 1995-2015. 20 Years Of Experimental Music From Indonesia (DVD-ROM and digital).

Future release
After touring two months in North, East and South Africa, I'm currently compiling many tracks in order to publish a new compilation around spring. The first African compilation I published was 30.2, in 2012. The CD included artists from Egypt, Angola, Réunion, Madagascar, South Africa, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritius and Tunisia. The forthcoming compilation will include more artists from more countries (expect also Kenya, Uganda, eSwatini, Namibia, Senegal and more !). It will include a lot of women too, unlike the first volume that didn't include any, due to the difficulty to find them back then. Meanwhile you can listen and download for free or pay as you wish 30.2 here.

Next concerts, talks, radio shows
My next two radio shows on Colaboradio/88vier will be dedicated to African electronic and experimental music (22 January, 26 February), as usual on line and on air, I will do my best to archive them on Mixcloud, something I don't do enough ! For the first show, expect to hear some electronica, singeli, gqom, dub, minimal electronic, electronic funaná, afro-pop, electro mayola, hip hop and more ! Never heard about half of those genres ? One more reason to stay tuned !
And I joined Staalplaat Radio again and am back on Boxout.fm as well.

I will have several concerts in Belgium and Berlin this month, including at CTM Festival on the 31st, together with noise artists Rambo (PH), Sodadosa (ID), Nguyễn Hong Giang (VN), Andreas Siagian & Lintang Radittya + Peter Kirn (ID/DE) and will have a short tour in spring (Czechia at Audiotrauma Festival, Istanbul, Singapore, and various cities in Vietnam, including Dao Xuan Festival in Gam Troy Valley), some more details about those events here.

Speak soon !

Hardcore sounds from Tehran
Tom Faber meets the artists behind SET, a festival championing electronic music in the capital of Iran.
You can't go far on the tangled motorways of Tehran without getting stuck in traffic. It was late July and I was weary from another day of suffocating, 40-degree heat, but as we entered another gridlock, Ata Ebtekar was in a characteristically good mood. A car with two young men pulled up beside us, blasting out Persian hip-hop. Ebtekar turned to look at them, and couldn't resist analysing the acoustics of their vehicle which was rattling ominously. "That's an extremely sustained bass sound," he chuckled. The traffic lights changed and we left them behind, sailing towards a horizon of mountains and construction sites, the sunset turning the blue sky gold. Full article here.
Hanoi New Music Festival Concert 2018 – When music is not only for the ears
Liên hoan Nhạc mới Hà Nội 2018 – Khi âm nhạc không chỉ cho đôi tai

After 5 years, Hanoi New Music Festival Concert 2018 made its comeback with the theme “Make a Silence” from 16 to 21 December 2018.  Inspired by the impossibility of absolute silence, this music event series was a journey to find Southeast Asia’s own style, a region considered “silent” in the discourse of contemporary music on the world’s art map.
