The Toronto Concert Band is thrilled to announce its fifth concert season! This will be a special year for the TCB, and we would like to invite you to celebrate it with us.
Our season kicked off with joint rehearsal on Thanksgiving weekend, when we hosted the Norwegian Travelling Band as they wrapped up their North American tour. We spent the evening practicing together at the Royal Conservatory of Music's Temerty Theatre, and after a brief "performance" (run through of music we saw for the first time that night) to a crowd of about 45 people, we closed the night with a "cultural exchange" at a nearby culinary establishment. The evening was a huge success and we hope to do more of this kind of event in the future.
Our first concert of the season is now just two weeks away. On November 24th, at the Glenn Gould Studio, the Toronto Concert Band will present the Canadian premiere of Wingspan by award-winning composerGary Kuo. The work will be performed by horn virtuoso Olivia Esther, and will be introduced by Mr. Kuo himself, as he joins our musical directors on stage for a candid discussion. We will also feature some music from our evening with the Norwegian Travelling Band, along with the works of Bach, Handel, Robert W. Smith, some delightful swing music, and even a treat from Toto and The Who!
Wingspan will also be our first professional live recording, and we hope you will be a part of it.
Our second concert will be held on February 23rd at Toronto's majestic Metropolitan United Church. The TCB will share the evening with the 100+ young musicians of the Etobicoke Youth Band in a joint concert that will feature each ensemble individually, as well as both bands combined in an epic performance involving nearly 200 musicians. We wrap up our season on June 15th with a special 5th anniversary concert back at the Glenn Gould Studio once again.
Season subscriptions and individual tickets for these performances are available online now, and if quantities last, at the door. Please see below for details.
