ABOUT OUR YOGA SESSION

Yoga teacher, Sarah Morrison, has created a class designed to help support you through stressful periods - and that you can then do at home. #WINNING

In this yoga session you will discover the best way to use props for your body so that you can deeply relax and restore your energy. Sarah will not just be teaching from the front and getting you to follow. In this class we will work together so you can learn the poses confidently to then practice at home. That way you can have the restorative experience at your home everyday! (Or every other day, either for 5 minutes or 30mins). The more frequently you practice yoga Asana (poses) the more you will reap from them. So with the knowledge gained in this class you will be set for a more relaxing lead up to Christmas.

Sarah has spent over 400hrs doing Iyengar yoga teacher training and many more hours on the mat practicing herself.

She would love to share her knowledge with you so you can experience a less stressful Christmas.

Adrenal Fatigue & Weight Issues
 
I LOVE getting 'success story' messages from clients. One amazing woman I have been working with at both Move Strong Gymnasium & Happy Biome was struggling to lose weight, even after exercising regularly and eating a clean diet. She was ready to throw all this 'healthy living' in, when I suggested doing some functional medicine lab testing to see if there were any metabolic imbalances that were stopping her from losing weight, despite her good efforts.

Sure enough, her adrenal stress hormones were acting dysfunctionally. After starting her on an adrenal nutraceutical program, as well as changing up her macronutrients to encourage metabolic repair (she was eating a very low-carb diet, and not enough food), the weight started dropping off!

Every week, now, I get an excited text to say another kilo (or three!) has dropped.

Healthy French Toast

Do you love French Toast? Here’s a healthy-version, that will keep your metabolism humming!

I make my French Toast with sprouted gluten-free bread from Pure Life. Sprouting the grains makes the bread so much easier to digest, plus it is ALIVE with gut-loving microbes...Well, maybe not in this recipe, because the fry pan heats them all up, lol! If you do want to get the most out of the microbes of sprouted bread, I’d advise eating it raw…but you know, ‘toasted bread’ is always nice from time to time too...

Heal Your Immune System


How have you coped over winter & moving into spring? There sure have been some nasty viruses going around!

For the past six years, since having my first child, I have constantly caught colds & flus, and winter time was always the worst - sometimes coming down with a bug every 2-4 weeks!

Well, that has all changed since doing an overhaul on my adrenals and gut microbiome! This winter/spring my immune system has been the best yet! My kids got a couple of pretty nasty flus, and usually I would’ve caught them too...But not even their snotty fingers in my mouth infected me.

Why might you be getting sick all the time, you ask? 

STRESS: yes, stress is most likely making you sick as it compromises the immune system. It can also suppress your Secretory IgA (immune response in your gut-lining) which can then lead to pathogen overgrowth in the gut. Considering 70-80% of your immune system is in your gut, you’d want your microbiome to be clear of any nasties!

REALITY CHECK: I will admit I had a pretty hectic week the last week of September, and after it was over I felt very close to coming down with something. It was a good reminder to me that MAINTENANCE is essential if I want to continue having a robust immune system (i.e. don’t go back to being a stress-head, always-on-the-cray-cray-go, trying-to-be-superwoman, Filipa, lol!).

CoQ10 - Are You Using the Best Form?


CoQ10 - Are you using the best form?

Coenzyme Q10 is a fat-soluble, vitamin-like substance necessary for energy production in virtually every cell in the human body. An antioxidant, it also helps protect against cellular damage from free radicals.

When creating treatment plans based on functional medicine lab-testing, I most commonly use CoQ10 when trying to repair mitochondrial function, or when a client is experiencing a lot of oxidative damage and inflammation.

Because I am always after real results for my clients, I am a bit of a supplement-snob when it comes to recommending therapeutic nutraceuticals. One of the things I look out for is whether a nutritional is in its ACTIVE form. 

CoQ10 is a good example of this. CoQ10 can be found in two forms - ubiquinone/ubidecarenone and ubiquinol. The latter is the reduced (active) form of CoQ10, and because of this, ubiquinol has superior absorption and higher bioavailability than ubiquinone or ubidecarenone. 

Like other active forms of nutritionals, ubiquinol may be a more expensive form of CoQ10, but it will produce greater therapeutic effects!
