11 November at the Tullamore Central Library at 2.30 p.m. Launch of the society’s publication, Offaly and the Great War and readings from the essays by some of the contributors.  The chief executive of Offaly County Council, Anna Marie Delaney, will launch the publication. Be a part of history by coming along on this the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Our thanks to Martina Needham and Tullamore Central Library for all their help with this launch.

 

 
17 November Offaly Heritage Seminar. Organised by Amanda Pedlow, Offaly County Council Heritage Officer, this year's seminar has two field trips in the morning to choose from, one to see the conservation work at Drumcullen monastic site and to visit the two associated high crosses with archaeologist Caimin O’Brien and one to the village of Geashill to see their ongoing work in the public realm and providing for pollinators. Lunch is provided in Tullamore DEW and then a varied afternoon of subjects from the Book of Durrow, Thatch surveys, Poet Edward Egan to the Gloster Folly. It will be an interesting and engaging day and all are welcome but please book as the sessions  will be first come first booked onto the bus, places are limited. heritage@offalycoco.ie

 
 

 
26 November (Cancelled), Monday, 8 p.m. Michael Byrne on 'King’s County/Offaly in a time of war, 1914-18', an illustrated lecture. This lecture has been deferred in view of the book launch on 11 November to which all the members have been invited. The book will also be launched in Birr on 19 November and Edenderry on 30 November at meetings of the Birr and Edenderry Historical Societies.

 
13 December, Thursday, 8 p.m.  at Offaly History Centre,  Christmas Meeting with an illustrated talk by Ciarán Reilly on The history of Capard House in Slieve Bloom. Followed by Christmas refreshments.
