SES Standards Engineering

The November/December issue of Standards Engineering will be released soon and will feature a variety of content including Standards and Innovation—There Ain’t No Fleas on This Dog by Steve Lowell. Steve was the winner of the World Standards Day paper competition.

Also included in the November/December issue is a piece entitled Standards-Setting at the Consumer Product Safety Commission: an Ever-Evolving Dynamic, a piece on CPSC by Robert Adler, one of the CPSC commissioners and Standardization in Action: A Critical Path for Translational STEM Education by Sharon Tsai-hsuan Kuat which discusses a NIST grant furthering education about standards..

This issue is also a look back on the history of the SES. So on the 50th anniversary of the Standards Engineering journal, the SES is pleased to republish the lead article from the very first issue in November/December of 1948, What are We Doing?—by Irving L. Rosenheim, and excerpts from The Relationship between Industry and Company Standards by L. D. Price of NEMA.

In this issue, look for the call for nominations for the 2019 Society Board elections and the Society awards program. This is a great opportunity to recognize your colleagues for all the work they do.

Update from NIST

In 2017 NIST hosted a workshop to engage the conformity assessment community in the development and update of its conformity assessment materials to reflect growth and evolution in the conformity assessment community as well as updates to the guidance in the revised OMB Circular A-119.

Taking into consideration the feedback received from workshop participants as well as input and comments received from conformity assessment stakeholders, both conformity assessment documents have been published and are now available online:
For more information, please visit the Conformity Assessment Resources for Federal Agencies page on Standards.gov.
